Georgian Armed Forces, Participation in International Peacekeeping Missions
The Georgian Armed Forces have been participating in peacekeeping missions (the Balkans, Persian Gulf, Afghanistan) since 1999. This clearly illustrates that there is a strong political will for the further integration of the country in the collective structures of NATO. The armed forces of Georgia are constantly changing in line with the transformation of NATO capabilities, and its doctrines are revised along with it. Thus, NATO has been transformed into an important “school” for the Georgian armed forces. By participating in several missions they gained considerable practical experience, which has contributed to the improvement of their operational capability and readiness.

Vectronics integrated NBC reconnaissance system
NBC equipment manufacturer seeks collaboration for the integration of digital NBC detectors to modern intercoms and vehicle Battle Management Systems. Based on the fact that modern military and peace keeping forces are operating in areas and countries where protection against NBC warfare is necessary, the integration of a low cost digital, smart NBC detector to the vehicles intercom is a promising solution. The integrated NBC reconnaissance system will be able to detect radiation level, blister and nerve gases as well as meteorological parameters. The measured data will be sent via intercom data bus and BMS system to higher level Echelons. In parallel, alarm will inform all crew members for the present gases or any other type of environmental pollution. Through this system different NBC reports will be rapidly transmitted to upper Echelons providing enhanced situation awareness.

NATO at 60: The Post-Cold War Enlargement and the Alliances Future (Nato Science for Peace and Security Series E: Human and Sociental Dynamics), by A. Bebler

At the age of 60, NATO has never been easier. The alliance has remained a key instrument for addressing pressing security challenges. But it also remains a unique transatlantic family of like-minded democracies. Though, a lot have been changed since 1949. NATO successfully transformed itself from a North American-Western European Alliance focused exclusively on territorial defence into a pan-European institution with new members stretching from the Baltic to the Black Sea. NATOs missions have changed and its structures have been reformed accordingly. This book addresses these problems and must be regarded as a must read for those interested in international relations, global security and defence issues.

Black Sea Security: International Cooperation and Counter-Trafficking in the Black Sea Region - Volume 74 NATO Science for Peace and Security Series - E: Human and Societal Dynamics, by F. Houston, W.D. Wood, D.M. Robinson

The Black Sea is perhaps best characterized as a critical corridor between East and West, providing transit routes for a variety of commodities, both legal and illegal. The Black Sea region comprises at least 10 countries. Amongst them is Georgia. The region has become a a hotbed of illicit trafficking in counterfeit goods, drugs, weapons and radioactive material from discarded former Soviet facilities. This book expands on the proceedings and subsequent contributions resulting from a NATO workshop held at Oxford University. The workshop on Black Sea security cooperation brought together key government and private sector stakeholders in the region. The first part of the book covers the security challenges to the Black Sea region.
