The9th Annual MIT
Sloan CIO Symposium today announced two winners of the MIT Sloan CIO
Symposium 2012 Award
for Innovation Leadership. Catherine Bruno, VP and CIO of non-profit
Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems and Chris Perretta, EVP and CIO of
State Street Corporation were officially announced as winners of the
prestigious award during a special ceremony at the Symposium on May 22,
2012.
The MIT Sloan CIO Symposium Award for Innovation Leadership honors Chief
Information Officers (CIOs) who lead their organizations to pursue the
innovative use of Information Technology (IT) and business processes to
deliver business value.
“We are pleased to recognize both Ms. Bruno and Mr. Perretta for their
strategic vision and use of technology to significantly impact and
improve business performance for their respective organizations,” said
Ray Chang, Co-Chair of the Award Program. “They serve as terrific
examples of how technology can drive business success, and the
fundamentally important role that CIOs are playing in organizations
around the globe.”
As the VP and CIO at Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems (EMHS), Catherine
Bruno has successfully developed Information Systems Strategic Plans and
Governance designs at three large, complex healthcare organizations. Ms.
Bruno has implemented and integrated major clinical, financial, and
decision-support information systems (e.g., Computerized Provider Order
Entry), two of which received the Nicholas R. Davies Organizational
Award, the nation’s highest award for implementation of a system-wide
Electronic Health Record, by the Health Information Management and
Systems Society (HIMSS). She is the Executive Sponsor for the Bangor
Beacon Community, one of 17 communities in the U.S. to receive a $12.75
million grant to improve the health of the people in the Bangor
community through care management supported by Health IT and was asked
by the Office of the National Coordinator to co-chair the Leadership and
Governance Community of Practice for the national Beacon program.
“I am honored to be a winner of this prestigious MIT Sloan CIO award and
would like to take this opportunity to recognize all of the dedicated,
hard-working people of EMHS and the Bangor Beacon Community who,
together, are changing the way healthcare services are delivered in
Maine,” said Ms. Bruno. “Being a chief information officer is about
bringing out the best in all of the people with whom I am privileged to
work, and this award truly recognizes their achievements as well.”
Chris Perretta has global responsibility for State Street’s information
technology activities; leading a team of more than 5,000 IT
professionals supporting operations in 29 countries, covering all major
investment centers. He oversees the IT strategic planning process,
application development and maintenance, system architecture, global
technology infrastructure, and information security for the firm. In
addition, Mr. Perretta co-leads the company’s Operations and Information
Technology Transformation initiative. State Street (NYSE: STT) is one of
the world's leading providers of financial services to institutional
investors.
“Technology’s central role in our business continues to grow
exponentially; so how we build it matters,” said Perretta. “Being
recognized in this way is a great honor and underscores our ongoing work
and commitment to the use of technology to deliver innovative solutions
to our clients. I am grateful to the MIT Sloan CIO Symposium for
bringing leaders and IT specialists together to address key issues
relating to IT innovation and its impact on businesses around the world.”
Professor
Glen L. Urban, Dean Emeritus, MIT Sloan, presented the award and
finalists included Susan Cooklin, CIO of Network Rail in the UK, and
