Our MSAN solution introduces an innovative approach for multi-dimensional convergence in the access space by converging access technologies, current and future multiplay broadband service support, and residential and business services. ECI Telecom’s MSAN supports industry-standard transport-layer convergence, and enables convergence of protocols (ATM, Ethernet/ IP, etc.) and functionality (aggregation, edge, etc.) in a single access node.

Mixed Options on a Single Platform
ECI's MSAN has the flexibility to accommodate copper-based xDSL access and the functionality of an IP-DSLAM for last-mile applications. It can also accommodate – on the same chassis/ platform – fiber access, such as active Ethernet (point-to-point) and Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON), and function as an optical line terminal (OLT).
This efficient solution provides Service Providers (SPs) with an alternative not only to use the platform for its designated purpose, but also enables them to mix both copper-based and fiber-based options, within a single platform, hence providing the optimal network element to support SPs’ required access needs and a smooth evolution path from copper to fiber access.
A multi-service access node, presenting various functionalities
ECI Telecom's MSAN can serve as a multi-purpose access node, capable of various functions. It can serve as an IP-DSLAM, an OLT, an aggregation node with multi-GigE and 10GigE connections and even as a policy enforcement point (PEP) that ties the MSAN into the IMS and converged control layer.
The main advantage is that it can mix the various functionality types into a varied universal broadband access node.
This enables the MSAN to support the delivery of various services, including legacy and upcoming services such as and voice, personalized video and mass multiplayer online gaming, to support the combination of any mix of xDSL and fiber technologies and to support both residential and business services on a single platform.
Supporting Legacy Services with an ATM engine, allowing the use of the ATM-based DSLAMs
ECI's MSAN is a sophisticated solution that serves legacy ATM as well as evolving Ethernet and IP protocols. The MSAN is capable of supporting legacy services with an ATM engine, allowing the use of the ATM-based DSLAMs by aggregating them to the MSAN. It also presents a migration path that supports ATM as well as Ethernet and IP services. A hierarchically distributed MSAN architecture helps in handling Ethernet and IP traffic with bridging and routing engines that are targeted at newly introduced services.
