Xylem Inc. (NYSE: XYL), a leading global water technology company
focused on addressing the world’s most challenging water issues,
announced today that CMS Field Products, a wholly-owned subsidiary of
Xylem's OI Analytical brand, has entered into a $12.3 million contract
with Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass, a systems contractor selected by the
U.S. Department of Defense’s Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives
program. Through the contract, OI Analytical will provide a
chemical-agent monitoring system that is based on its MINICAMS®
product line. The technologies will play an essential role in industrial
air monitoring as part of a U.S. Army program responsible for safely
destroying a stockpile of chemical weapons currently in storage.
“We are proud that Bechtel has awarded Xylem this contract related to a
significant demilitarization program for the U.S. Government,” said
Chris McIntire, president of Xylem’s Analytics businesses. “We believe
that the selection of MINICAMS® is a strong endorsement of
the innovative technology developed under our OI Analytical brand.”
Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass will purchase MINICAMS® systems
and associated equipment for installation at the Blue Grass Chemical
Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant, which is being built to safely and
efficiently destroy a stockpile of chemical weapons being stored at the
Blue Grass Army Depot in Kentucky. MINICAMS® equipment will
be used for low-level air monitoring inside the facility to inform
workers if the presence of potentially dangerous chemical agents is
detected.
MINICAMS® are complete, continuous, near-real-time, gas
chromatography-based monitoring systems for the analysis of chemical
welfare agents, precursors, simulant materials and related industrial
chemicals. Work under the contract is to begin immediately with
shipments scheduled to commence later in 2012.
MINICAMS® is a registered trademark of OI Corporation. To
