GMV is a privately owned technological business group that was founded in 1984. GMV, has an international presence and is activated in different domains of the industry namely, Aeronautics, Banking and Finances, Space, Defense, Health, Security, Transportation, Telecommunications, and Information Technology for Public Administration and large corporations. GMV started out with a small group of engineers and since then adopted a strategy of international growth and development that had as a result the company to evolve from a small aerospace engineering company into a business group with a 1000-strong staff trading in various hi-tech sectors and boasting a healthy international client portfolio. In May 2005 GMV confirmed the above-mentioned strategy with the purchase of a 58% stake in Skysoft, a Portuguese firm with business lines and target markets very similar to those of GMV.

Finally, on 21 September 2009, Skysoft Portugal begun to use the GMV brand as GMV decided to go for a single brand policy taking in all group companies under a sole denomination. Despite the fact that the company was taken over by GMV the business structure and nature of it will not be altered and its board, management and personnel will remain the same as before. 

Skysoft was born in 1998 and since then, steadily worked its way up to become one of Portugal’s top technology firms. Nowadays, it is the European Space Agency’s prime supplier in Portugal. Skysoft started as a company activated in the Aerospace segment. Since, then the company successfully expanded in the markets of Aerospace, Defense, Security, Transport, Telecommunications and Information Technology.

SIMA (Simulated Integrated Modular Avionics) is a simulation environment for Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) based on the ARINC 653 standard. SIMA provides robust partitioning, including time partitioning, on top of the Linux operating system.
