PPG Brightens and Restores Youth Center in Wyandotte County, Kansas

PPG (NYSE: PPG) today announced the completion of a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES™ project in Kansas City, Kansas, to revitalize State Street Project, a youth empowerment center in Wyandotte County. In addition, the PPG Foundation donated $20,000 to fund a 10-week summer science, technology, engineering and math program for up to 100 inner-city students.

The Colorful Communities program provides PPG volunteers and products along with financial contributions to bring color and vitality to communities around the world. In Kansas City, more than 30 PPG employees, along with paint professionals from Neighborhood Painting, applied nearly 90 gallons of donated premium paint to the historic State Street Project building, which was built in 1923.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of PPG and its employees,” said Tawnya Metzler-Martinez, co-founder, State Street Project. “This gift will help us serve and inspire hundreds of children. I can’t wait to see the looks on their faces when they see how beautiful and vibrant our building is!”

State Street Project is a community outlet providing a safe and positive environment where youth can receive mentoring and academic tutoring, learn workforce skills, and participate in sports, art, dance and music activities. The organization selected a vibrant custom palette of PPG PAINTS™ products including Beach Party (PPG 1211-6), Orange Poppy (PPG 1196-7), King Triton (PPG 1242-5), Grassy Meadow (PPG 1228-6) and Calypso Berry (PPG 1185-7), as well as neutral Antique White (PPG 1024-2) and Sharkskin (PPG 1025-4).

Thomas Maziarz, PPG vice president – stores and dealers, remarked that the new, vivid colors will greatly enhance the learning environment. “We know color plays a powerful role in energizing and revitalizing a space,” he said. “This new custom palette will transform the way these students think and feel about their surroundings.”

Premium PPG products, such as PPG Paints MANOR HALL® interior paint, were applied to protect and brighten the lobby, hallway and several classrooms on the first floor of the building. The paint, primer and stain-repellant-in-one is a super-premium latex that resists stains and provides excellent durability, making it ideal for use in high-traffic areas. PPG Paints BREAK-THROUGH! ® paint, which uses new technology to provide excellent adhesion, hardness and block resistance to various hard-to-paint surfaces, was applied to give new life to metal lockers.

Kansas City, Kansas Mayor, Mark Holland, issued a special proclamation to commemorate the occasion, making May 31, 2017 “PPG Colorful Communities Day.”
