ViaSat-2 Scheduled for Launch Tonight, June 1 at 4:45 PM PDT

CARLSBAD, Calif., June 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- ViaSat Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT), a global broadband services and technology company, is proud to announce its ViaSat-2 satellite will launch tonight from the Guiana Space Center located in Kourou, French Guiana. The launch window is scheduled to open at 4:45 pm PDT (8:45 pm in Kourou) with a live webcast of the event starting at 4:30 pm PDT, streaming on www.viasat.com.

The Arianespace Ariane 5 ECA launch vehicle will be responsible for sending the 6,418 kg ViaSat-2 satellite into its geostationary transfer orbit. ViaSat-2 will be located at the 69.9° west longitude orbital slot.

The ViaSat-2 mission will take less than 30 minutes from liftoff to separation. Once the satellite separates from the rocket, the next major event will be acquisition, which is the point at which the satellite first communicates with, and accepts commands from a ground station. Acquisition is expected to occur approximately 15 minutes after separation from the launch vehicle. At that point, the mission can be considered successful.

Launch Window
The launch window for ViaSat-2 is one hour in duration, opening at 4:45 pm PDT / 8:45 pm GFT / 11:45 pm UTC. ViaSat, Arianespace and Boeing Satellite Systems International (the ViaSat-2 satellite manufacturer) will work closely to determine and confirm that conditions are appropriate for liftoff within the launch window. If conditions are not suitable for liftoff within the available launch window, the launch will be held until the following day, which follows the normal course of business for launch activities.

About ViaSat-2
The ViaSat-2 satellite system is expected to significantly improve speeds, reduce costs and expand the footprint of broadband services across North America, Central America, the Caribbean and a portion of northern South America, as well as the primary aeronautical and maritime routes across the Atlantic Ocean between North America and Europe. ViaSat-2 is a geostationary satellite that operates in Ka-band frequencies. It was designed to offer high-capacity connectivity and wide coverage, with the flexibility to move capacity to where demand requires it. As compared to ViaSat-1, ViaSat-2 is expected to double the bandwidth, with more than 300 Gigabits per second (Gbps) of total network capacity, as well as provide seven times the broadband coverage.
