The Enterprise Managed Services Division Brings National Geographic Live to the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University

MELVILLE, N.Y., June 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Canon Solutions America, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc., along with the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, sponsored a dynamic lecture in May from Freshwater Conservationist & National Geographic Fellow Sandra Postel. Ms. Postel is the founder of the Global Water Policy Project as well as co-creator of Change the Course, the national freshwater conservation and restoration initiative pioneered by National Geographic and its partners which has restored billions of gallons of water to depleted rivers and wetlands.

During her talk, Ms. Postel shared a number of insights ranging from the impact of dams on freshwater biodiversity, to successful collaborative restoration efforts in the Rio Grande, to smarter irrigation techniques along the Flint River Basin. Her presentation was a mix of timely data and compelling case studies highlighting the impact of humanity's collective freshwater footprints.

Before the lecture, Canon Solutions America hosted a private reception for Drexel and Academy board members and donors to the Academy, where guests received a signed copy of Written in Water: Messages of Hope for Earth's Most Precious Resource, featuring a chapter written by Ms. Postel.

As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, Canon Solutions America frequently engages National Geographic speakers to provide a behind-the-scenes look at their work, sharing what it takes to capture the powerful stories and images showcased through National Geographic magazines, television productions, and channels, and their website.

This event had special significance due to the collaboration between Canon Solutions America's Enterprise Managed Services Division (EMSD) and Drexel University, and the Academy's focus on water conservation and restoration in the Delaware River Basin.

Organized by EMSD Senior Manager Ryan DeVito, the event perfectly demonstrates the mutual desire of Canon Solutions America and Drexel University to deliver programs of value to both organizations as well as the community at large. As the dedicated program manager for Drexel University, Ms. DeVito works closely with school administrators and faculty to build this partnership across four core areas: sponsorship, philanthropy, student advancement, and community engagement. EMSD is currently exploring further cooperation opportunities at the University with the Academy of Natural Sciences, the English Department, and the Animation and Visual Effects program, and currently sponsors the U.S. Open Squash Championships held on Drexel's campus each year.

"The alliance with Drexel University is one of our most innovative," says Andrea Rai, senior manager of Strategic Partnerships and a member of EMSD's Higher Education Advisory Team (HEAT). "We're collaborating on initiatives based on Drexel's drive towards cutting-edge scientific discovery and technology, as well as our shared philanthropic goals."

Strategic collaborations have become the foundation of EMSD's engagements with higher education clients through a robust offering that focuses on more than just delivering multifunction print devices, software, and services. HEAT was created to conduct primary research on industry trends and to focus on managed services opportunities in the higher education space by identifying and implementing best practices, including benchmarking metrics to track program goals and successes.

"This was an outstanding event," said Valerie Belli, vice president of the Enterprise Managed Services Division. "Both the mixer and the presentation were incredible, and we're in the process of developing further opportunities to expand our collaboration with Drexel in the near future."
