Tampa Dermatopathologist, Charles Perniciaro, M.D., Recognized for Excellence
TAMPA, Fla., June 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Charles Perniciaro, M.D., a dermatologist and practicing dermatopathologist, received the inaugural "Excellence in Dermatopathology" award from the Florida Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery (FSDDS). The recipient was chosen based on a vote by the 500 members of the FSDSS to select Florida's premier dermatopathologist.
"I'm incredibly proud to receive this award, but I'm even more honored to be recognized by my peers," said Dr. Perniciaro, a board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist at Gulf Coast Dermatopathology Laboratory in Tampa, Florida.
The award was handed out at the Society's annual meeting last weekend in Hollywood, Florida. FSDDS is the state's oldest and largest dermatology society. Dermatopathology is a subspecialty of dermatology in which a physician examines skin biopsy tissue under the microscope, in order to provide the diagnosis of a skin tumor or rash.
Dr. Perniciaro is board certified in both dermatology and dermatopathology. He is the former Director of Dermatopathology at Mayo Clinic Florida, in Jacksonville, and he has published over 50 peer-reviewed medical articles and book chapters. In 2009, Dr. Perniciaro was recognized as "Practitioner of the Year" by the FSDDS, and in 2015 he was selected as "Pathologist of the Year" by the Florida Society of Histotechnology.
