WHAT: New York City is facing an epidemic outbreak of mold infestation. In housing, commercial buildings, and public building, including schools and hospitals, the problem is going unaddressed. This Town Hall meeting will afford New Yorkers the opportunity to voice their concerns, and hear from New York City elected officials, and health and legal experts on the mold problem and potential to solutions to address this crisis.

WHY: The Town Hall meeting is being held as the New York City Council moves forward with legislation intended to address this issue. Intro 978A, which 47 of the 51 members of the City Council have signed on as sponsors, would insure that mold removal is handled properly, by trained and licensed professionals. For too long the mold problem has been addressed in a haphazard, "quick fix" method, which has led to increased infestation, an alarming rise in asthma related illnesses and an overall decline in the quality of life.
