S7 Receives A320neo Powered by Pratt & Whitney PurePower® Engines

S7 Airlines took delivery of its first A320neo powered by Pratt & Whitney PurePower® Geared Turbofan™ PW1100G-JM engines today.  S7 Airlines is leasing the aircraft from BOC Aviation.  This milestone also becomes the first PW1100G-JM-powered aircraft to be added to BOC Aviation's fleet.  Pratt & Whitney is a division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

"S7 Airlines is constantly renewing its fleet using the latest technology and innovations from the world's leading manufacturers.  Airbus A320neo aircraft are more efficient in operation – fuel consumption is reduced and flying range is better – compared to the previous generation.  Very soon, passengers of S7 Airlines will be the first in Russia to experience the new level of comfort offered by these modern aircraft," said the chairman of the board of S7 Airlines Vladislav Filev.

"This delivery is a milestone for us in many ways:  not only is this the first A320neo to be delivered to a Russian airline, but it is also the country's first A320neo to be powered by Pratt & Whitney's new engine technology," said Robert Martin, managing director and chief executive officer of BOC Aviation.

"As a growing airline and new customer to Pratt & Whitney, we are confident that S7 will appreciate the benefits that this state-of-the-art engine provides, especially in terms of fuel savings and emissions," said Chris Calio, president, Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines.  "We also thank BOC Aviation for being the first to place one of many GTF-powered aircraft that S7 will be leasing."

The Geared Turbofan (GTF) engine provides operators with a reduction in fuel burn of 16 percent and up to a 50 percent reduction in regulated emissions.  The large bypass ratio also reduces the noise footprint of the engine by up to 75 percent.

The PurePower engine family has engine orders, including options and unannounced orders, from more than 80 customers in 30 countries.
