UGI Corporation Hosts STEM Scholars

UGI Corporation and UGI Energy Services, a subsidiary of UGI Corporation, recently hosted students from the Franklin Institute’s STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Scholars Program for a tour of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Plant in Temple, Pennsylvania. The tour was a component of the STEM Scholars Program’s hands-on educational program, which includes workshops, site visits and presentations from professionals working in the STEM fields. UGI Corporation has been a strong supporter of the Franklin Institute’s STEM Scholars Program, providing financial resources, as well as employee volunteers who provide workshops supporting STEM Scholars.

“We are proud to partner with the Franklin Institute’s STEM Scholars Program,” said John Walsh, CEO of UGI Corporation. “Supporting this program is providing Philadelphia-area students an opportunity to experience a day-in-the-life of our engineers. It also gives us an opportunity to engage with the students, provide mentorship and build the pipeline of future talent for our company and our community.”

The Franklin Institute STEM Scholars program is a four-year program for Philadelphia students, which immerses students into science, technology, engineering and mathematics career experiences, college preparation, and research opportunities. The goals of the program include increasing college matriculation in STEM disciplines, graduation rates, and entry into the workforce post-graduation.

“We are thankful for UGI Corporation’s support of the STEM Scholars Program,” said Zénab Kouyaté, coordinator of the STEM Scholars Program. “The mentors at UGI provide our scholars access to a wide array of engineering professions, while teaching them about technology and the basics of energy education.”

Franklin Institute’s STEM Scholars Program is open to Philadelphia-area students in grades 9-12, who are passionate about STEM subjects.
