Back to School: Cyber Preparations

LAKE MARY, Fla., Aug. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Data Analyzers, a leader in the data recovery industry, provides valuable recommendations for back to school cyber preparations. These tips are universally applicable and will apply to the high school student, just as well as to the university professor.

Everyone prepares for the new school year in their own way! Some shop for new clothes, some do the assigned reading in advance, but the expert recovery team at Data Analyzers knows how students and teachers should be preparing! Every week Data Analyzers' recovery advisors speak with students and faculty who have experienced the loss of crucial data, most of which could have been avoided by taking simple precautions.

"Most students don't know how valuable their hard work is until their data is suddenly gone," Says Data Analyzers Recovery Advisor, Nick Stern, "as a data recovery superhero, it's my job to help students and educators save their data successfully; but we would rather prevent the loss of valuable data whenever possible."

Data Analyzers, in an effort to prevent the tragic and unnecessary loss of data, has released the three simple steps they recommend taking to securely start the new school year.

Step One: Storm Season Preparedness

With the beginning of the school year, comes the peak of storm season and one of the easiest ways to protect your data is to purchase the right surge protector. The amount of options when trying to decide what power supply you need can be confusing. Every company will offer you something unique about their product, but Data Analyzers says there are two things that you should look for.

First, find a surge protector with an uninterruptible power supply, or UPS. These surge protectors house a spare battery that could buy you valuable time to save your documents and shut down your computer properly, so you will not lose files or damage any hardware components.

Next, you'll want to pay attention to the fine print! Some surge protector manufacturers include insurance to repair or replace your equipment. Be mindful of what kind, if any, insurance your power supply comes with and what steps you need to take to file claims in the event of a surge.

"While the insurance offered with some surge protectors may not always mean good news for your data, it could provide you with a suitable replacement to transfer your recovered data to," says Stern, Data Analyzers Recovery Advisor.

Step Two: Backup your backup!

There are many easy and effective ways to create a backup of your data. Whether you keep an external storage device or install a second hard drive in your computer, it is important to develop a routine for backing up your data.

The best time to backup your data is when you are not using your computer system and it is being idle, for most individuals that means at night. Almost all backup software applications available on the market today, allow for a convenient scheduling for your backups. Having automated backups performed late in the evening or at night, is a good option for many individuals.

The team at Data Analyzers insists that forming a daily, or even weekly, habit of backing up your data to an alternate drive can prevent some of the data recovery disasters that they witness on a day-to-day basis.

Step Three: Invest in a reliable Anti-virus software.

Data Analyzers advises all of their clients not only to install an Anti-virus program, but to be sure that its software is kept up to date. Using an anti-virus software protects your computer against malware and other viruses; however, without the latest updates you could still be vulnerable.

"Most viruses and malware spread through the internet and can delete or modify your data, causing your computer to crash without warning," says Andrew Mapp, CEO of Data Analyzers," this is why it is so important to have an anti-virus software, preferably with a firewall."

Around this time of year, especially, there is an increase in the amount of data recovery cases that arrive at the Data Analyzers lab in sunny Florida! Students and teachers, alike, are experiencing data loss that could have been prevented.

The data recovery experts at Data Analyzers have only one goal: to provide their clients with their most valuable and cherished data; whether by preventing data loss, or assisting you after tragedy strikes, Data Analyzers' recovery team is here to help!
