The Dayton Power and Light Company Foundation Awards $510,000 in Grants Supporting the Miami Valley and Southwest Ohio

The Dayton Power and Light Company Foundation today is presenting the mid-year Signature Grants to support new or innovative initiatives to six area partner organizations.

“We are witnessing a changing and growing landscape in the Miami Valley. The DP&L Foundation Signature Grants have made a vital contribution to economic vibrancy of our region and a meaningful difference to the organizations who have received them,” said President and CEO of Dayton Power & Light Tom Raga. “Today, we are recognizing the exciting and transformational work these non-profit organizations do in our community and their passionate employees.”

These grants advance the DP&L Foundation’s belief in making an impact for the customers and communities DP&L serves. Signature Grants work with partner organizations to create new and innovative projects, support programs and capital improvements, drive economic growth, improve education and provide essential services to the Dayton region.

The recipients of the mid-year DP&L Foundation Signature Grants are:

  • Dayton Performing Arts Alliance - $100,000 for Powering Innovation in the Performing Arts to continue focus on innovation, integrating the arts, education and community outreach, while maintaining the highest artistic quality.
  • Friends of Levitt Dayton - $100,000 to “Close the Gap” on the campaign goal for the construction of the new Levitt Pavilion Dayton supporting community building and economic development through free music and a cultural gathering place in the city center.
  • Victoria Theatre Association - $100,000 as the Official Energy Sponsor for the Next Stage Campaign, which is building a $30 million endowment to sustain Dayton’s first-class arts facilities and programs into the future.
  • Murphy Theatre Company - $50,000 to support the restoration and preservation of the historic theatre to continue hosting a variety of performances.
  • Omega Community Development Corporation - $50,000 for the redevelopment of a 30-acre site into the Hope Center focused on early child education, work training programs, and health and wellness support.
  • WYSO Public Radio - $50,000 to continue funding a full-time economics and business reporter to gather stories on the critical issues affecting the local economy.

Additionally, DP&L Foundation mid-year grants were awarded to: The Muse Machine for $40,000, the Human Services Levy Campaign Fund received $15,000 and Sidney’s Raise the Roof for the Arts accepted a $5,000 grant. Since 1985, The DP&L Foundation has given $36.4 million in grants. Annually, more than 200 DPL employees volunteer in the community.

The DP&L Foundation has awarded 45 Signature Grants to 21 of DP&L’s community partner organizations around the Miami Valley totaling more than $3.4 million.
