OKI's Reforestation Effort Marks Tenth Consecutive Year of Environmental Contributions in Thailand

OKI Data Corporation, an OKI Group company specializing in the printers business, today announced it participated in an effort to plant 6,000 saplings of nationally protected tree species on September 23 in clear-cut areas in Amphoe Muak Lek, Saraburi Province, in central Thailand, where OKI Data Corporation operates a manufacturing site. This effort is expected to newly increase greenery area by 48,000 square meters. A total of 150 personnel from Thailand's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and employees from OKI Data Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. ("ODMT" hereinafter), a manufacturing site for printers and multifunction printers (MFPs), took part in this activity, part of a series of conservation and local community efforts in which OKI has participated over the years.

Founded in 1994, ODMT is a flagship manufacturing site that annually manufactures and ships 500,000 printers and MFPs for the global market.

In every year since 2008, ODMT has pursued environmental conservation efforts as part of its ODMT Green Project.* The occasion marks the tenth consecutive year in which ODMT has contributed to this particular initiative. To date, these efforts have led to the planting of 73,918 trees. The saplings ODMT helped plant include teak and padauk, species targeted for conservation in Thailand based on guidance provided by experts.

“We've participated in various social contribution efforts on behalf of local communities, including planting saplings, building water weir barriers and canal cleaning,” said Teiji Shoji, President of ODMT. “We're active in other ways, too. We provide funding support and donate writing supplies like pens and notebooks for local school children, and we accept interns from universities and vocational schools. Based on OKI's tradition of contributing to local communities, we're committed to ongoing greening activities, cleaning efforts inside and outside our factory, and providing support for local schools.”

With the goal of furthering the conservation and sustainable management of forests worldwide, the OKI Group is committed to environmental conservation activities rooted in regional communities.

*: The ODMT Green Project was established to prevent global warming in 2008. The project involves a series of resource and environmental conservation efforts, including planting and other greening activities and the construction of water weir barriers.
