CFTC To Announce First SmartCheck Month In October

WASHINGTON, Sept. 26, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --

WHAT: The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading
            Commission (CFTC) will celebrate its
first SmartCheck Month in October with
an assortment of information aimed at
educating investors on the risk of
            fraud. CFTC has been celebrating
SmartCheck week since 2015, but this is
the first year CFTC will keep the
            conversation going about investment
            fraud through the month.

Throughout the month, CFTC will provide
tips and resources to help investors
            protect themselves against fraud. In
            addition, CFTC will participate in
            financial planning events around the
country. CFTC will conclude the month
            by releasing findings from its
            nationwide survey on financial fraud
            perceptions and attitudes and unveiling
            an "Investment Fraud Conversation
            Starter Kit."

CFTC's Office of Customer Education and
            Outreach launched SmartCheckSM, an
initiative to educate investors on the
risk of financial fraud, in 2014.

A complete list of SmartCheck Month
activities can be found in the
            SmartCheck Month Guide.

WHY: Investment fraud can happen to anyone.
But the damage can be minimized if it
is spotted and acted upon quickly.
That's why it is important for family
and friends to be willing to talk
            openly about fraud. CFTC's SmartCheck
Month is an opportunity to empower
everyone to spot and help reduce
investment fraud by using the tools at
            SmartCheck.gov.
