Gryphon Environmental To Install Advanced Dryers for Small Municipalities
OWENSBORO, Ky., Oct. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Gryphon Environmental (www.2gryphon.com) has released that a second model 03-series small scale dryer has been ordered for drying municipal biosolids to Class A, EQ residuals. The release comes shortly after an installation of the same model into the poultry rendering industry.
The Gryphon 0312 and 0318 dryer models remove approximately three to five tons of water from biosolids per day. Comparatively, this dryer is half the size of its predecessors by Gryphon and one-twentieth the size of Gryphons's largest dryer. Although offering the same automation and advanced features of the larger units, this line is positioned in the $300,000 to $500,000 price range, making it affordable for smaller cities, towns, and boroughs to produce Class A biosolids. This line of dryers is also available in a skid mounted or trailer mounted design for portability and is being adopted by agricultural markets for drying biomass, fruits, and vegetables.

Biosolids management is a leading challenge for cities and towns across the United States. Every municipal waste water treatment plant has biosolids that result from the treatment process. The biosolids are normally dewatered by some mechanical means to approximately 15 to 25% solids, or in other words they 75-85% water remaining. Due to the presence of pathogens, an inherent attraction to disease-carrying insects and rodents (known as vectors), and phosphorus levels, many states are placing restrictions on land application of these wet residuals. Thermal drying offers a reduction in moisture content to less than 10%, resulting in a biosolids residual that meets EPA 503 regulations, which places standards on pathogen presence and Vector Attraction Reduction. Simply stated, the thermal process kills the pathogens and eliminates vector attraction with greater nutrient benefits as a soil amendment.
Gryphon drying technology uses specialized sensors and "triple-redundant" validation to automatically adjust machine settings and ensure that Class A, EQ standards are met. Constant data streams from these sensors are electronically logged to provide municipalities necessary data for state and federal reporting and compliance.
