Biocom Institute to Host Life Science Career Exploration Symposium for Veterans of the Military

Biocom, the association representing the California life science community, today announced that its institute is hosting a special event focused on career exploration in the life sciences for veterans of the military. The event will occur Friday, October 13 from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm at 10996 Torreyana Road in San Diego.

“San Diego is one of the largest clusters of life science companies in the country, an industry that requires a workforce with advanced education, strong technical skills and adaptability to a quickly changing environment,” said Joe Panetta, president and CEO of Biocom. “It is also home to veterans, many of whom have the skills to thrive in the life sciences but may not know the opportunities that are available. This event is designed to help connect veterans with industry leaders.”

The half-day symposium is open to veterans of all stages of transition with interest in exploring career opportunities in the life sciences sector. Attendees will hear from top executives in the industry, who will discuss the variety of jobs in the life sciences and the ways that companies are seeking and using key skills that veterans have. For additional information, visit the event’s website.

“There are many jobs in the life sciences industry that veterans could be qualified for,” said Rich Pascoe, chief executive officer of Apricus Biosciences and a member of Biocom’s Veterans Committee. “Many people might believe that they wouldn’t qualify for a biotech job because they don’t have a science background, but that’s not the case. We welcome any veteran to this event.”
