Secure the Call Launches Hurricane Relief Campaign, Calls for Donations of Old Phones to Distribute to Affected Areas

TAKOMA PARK, Md., Oct. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On October 11, 2017, Secure the Call will begin to distribute emergency phones to individuals living in Texas, Louisiana, Florida and Puerto Rico who have been affected by hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria and Nate. The phones will be given away free of charge and will enable recipients to make life-saving calls to local authorities and emergency services. This initiative is part of Secure the Call's ongoing effort to ensure that all people have access to assistance when they need it most.

"In the wake of these devastating storms, the phones can give those who have suffered losses a sense of security and peace of mind," said Mike Morgan, president and founder of Secure the Call. "Just knowing that they are only a phone call away from help at any time can be an immense source of comfort as they begin to rebuild their lives." Secure the Call will work with its local partners in Texas, Louisiana, Florida and Puerto Rico to distribute the phones to individuals living in the most affected areas.

Secure the Call relies on the charitable donations of unused or unwanted phones. Because of the immediate need to bring relief to those who were caught in the paths of all four hurricanes, Secure the Call is seeking to collect an additional 5,000 phones from the public. "We're hoping to gather as many phones as we can, as quickly as we can," said Morgan. "The sooner we can get them in the hands of those who need them, the better."

Phones can be dropped off at designated Secure the Call barrels located in stores, police stations, and community centers around the country. Individuals interested in donating their phones, along with their accompanying chargers, can visit www.securethecall.org to find a convenient drop-off location near them. In the event that there are no drop-off locations nearby, the web site also offers instructions on how to donate unwanted and unused phones by mail.
