THine Announces Mass-Production of New Redriver Product Handling 10Gbps High-Speed Signal

THine Electronics, Inc. (JASDAQ:6769), the global leader in high-speed serial interface and provider of mixed-signal LSI, will start, from October 2017, mass-production and delivery of new redriver product “THCX423R10” that secures signal integrity*1 for 10Gbps high-speed signal and realizes multiplexer-demultiplexer function*2.

USB3.1 Gen2 with 10Gbps data transmission rate was standardized in 2013 reflecting commercialization and technical improvement. While increase in USB data transmission rate has provided users with advantages of transmission of large volume of data such as video images, pictures, and music without stress, system designers implementing USB have needed to have a solution to secure signal integrity for 10Gbps high-speed signal. While data transmission rate has increased, USB-IF standardized USB Type-CTM with symmetrical design in 2014, enabling connection regardless of direction of host side or device side. Users now can overcome disadvantage caused by different USB connector shape between host side and device side; however, system designers have to design configuration in which the system appropriately operates regardless of which side of the cable the USB connector is connected to.

The most remarkable feature of THCX423R10 is that signal-conditioning function*3 for 10Gbps high-speed signal and multiplexer-demultiplexer function are incorporated in one chip. Accordingly, one signal of either upper side or lower side of USB Type-CTM connector is selected by multiplexer-demultiplexer function while signal attenuation caused by signal transmission between USB host or USB device in the device incorporating USB and USB Type-CTM connector is corrected by signal conditioning-function, for example. Because two functions that have been realized by separate chips are integrated in one chip, it provides advantages to system designers in terms of the number of components, mounting area, and cost. Moreover, since it is possible to extend distance of transmission of USB signals, freedom of product design and convenience can be improved.

Furthermore, THCX423R10 can be connected to THine’s high-speed interface technology “V-by-One® HS,” realizing new system configurations. For example, by converting two lines of image sensor output signals into V-by-One® HS and inputting each image signal to THCX423R10, application for selecting and outputting one line of camera image signal is realized, allowing for improvement in freedom of product.

*1
Refers to quality of signal flowing in transmission path between transmitter end and receiver end. Transmission path is typically printed board or cable.

*2
Multiplexer is function to select two or more lines of input and output as one line of signal. Demultiplexer is function to select one line of input and output to one of two or more lines of output.

*3
Method for compensating waveform components attenuated when being transmitted at signal transmitter and signal receiver sides to secure long-distance and high-speed signal transmission. Three major methods include pre-emphasis and de-emphasis at transmitter side and equalizer at receiver side. THCX423R10 includes de-emphasis and equalizer.
