Bostonians To Demand Better, End Pancreatic Cancer At PurpleStride On Nov. 5

BOSTON, Oct. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Thousands will walk to end pancreatic cancer, the world's toughest cancer, at PurpleStride Boston on Nov. 5 at Boston Common - Parkman Bandstand. The community event is hosted by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) Boston Affiliate.

The five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer is just 9 percent. In order to save lives and double survival by 2020, PanCAN urges the Boston community to join PurpleStride. Funds raised through the event support critical research, clinical initiatives and patient services, including Know Your Tumor(®), Precision Promise(SM),( )Clinical Trial Finder and the Patient Registry.

Michele Wood, media relations chair of the PanCAN Boston Affiliate and member of PanCAN's Volunteer Advisory Council, lost her father to pancreatic cancer. She has made it her personal mission to improve patient outcomes.

"PurpleStride is an important part of what we do as an affiliate. It brings people together who have a shared history with pancreatic cancer, and it provides them with much needed support, resources and most importantly, a sense of hope," said Wood. "Equally important, PurpleStride funds PanCAN's strategic initiatives that will help the organization reach its goal of doubling survival by 2020."

PurpleStride Boston will be hosted by WCVB-TV's Erika Tarantal. The volunteer-led event is supported by national presenting sponsor Celgene; national gold sponsor AbbVie, gold sponsors Ipsen Biopharmaceuticals, Inc, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Pancreas and Liver Institute and Berg Health, gold media sponsor WCVB-TV and silver sponsor Michael Mula Memorial Scholarship Fund.
