Great content is worth its weight in gold and even good content has tremendous value because both have the ability to engage and inform audiences. That is why it is so important to get the most out of each and every piece of content that you create. However, you do need to be careful in how you repurpose content to ensure that you aren't creating duplicate content or are lowering your search rankings. With that in mind, NY based web design company, Lounge Lizard, shares 7 ways to repurpose old content.

Utilize a New Channel. This is one of the easiest ways to repurpose old content; by using a new platform or channel. For example, if you have a great blog series but just started using Twitter you can use that new channel to promote older content that provides value.

Transform into a New Type. This is another relatively easy idea where you take content in one format and convert it to another. For example, if you have a webinar series you might convert them to text articles or vice versa. Blogs can be turned into videos or infographics. They key is to find a strategic way to transform that content into a format that is in demand and digestible.

Update with New Information. This idea works best with older content pieces where you go back and incorporate new data to provide an updated point of view. This is similar to how news outlets will update a story as more relevant information is obtained.

Update based on Response. Have you ever read the comments below a blog or other type of post? If not, you should as you can learn a lot about your audience or even the topic you created content for. From that ideas for similar or new content can be created. You can even look to interview the responder if they have authority in your niche. This is similar to updating with new information but instead the opinions and insights the responders provide are the new information.

Create a Series. For those with a lot of content to choose from, you can combine similar topics and ideas into a new series. With some quick updates (based on response or new information) to freshen up older pieces, you can then put a series of content related to a hot topic. For example, a list of your most popular articles from the past quarter could be printed leading with an updated piece and linking to the existing top posts from the past quarter. By repeating this process every 3 months you have created a new series.

Create an eBook. You can easily turn your best blog posts or a series into an eBook. For example, one website had written a plethora of dating articles. After a year those articles were organized, with a few holes being filled in, and then turned into an eBook which was then utilized as a marketing incentive. Not all repurposing has to be directly related to adding to your SEO rankings. In some cases you can create valuable guides and tools that can be given away to people who sign up for a newsletter or some other marketing method to create more engagement and conversions.

Content Syndication. This is when you take content that has already posted and then find quality third party sites to post it on. You can avoid duplication penalties by placing the proper tags on the syndicated article to point back to the original piece on your site so site crawlers understand it is a duplicate of the original done on purpose.
