Indra approved by EASA as a design organization for modifying aircraft and installing avionics networks

Indra has obtained Design Organization Approval (DOA) from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), which entitles it to carry out modifications in aircraft of all sizes and install avionics networks to enhance their capabilities.

Indra is a leading company in the development of avionics networks and sensors carried by all kinds of terrestrial, naval and aerial platforms. For example, it has helped develop latest-generation equipment for aircraft like the Eurofighter and A400M.

The EASA accreditation means that Indra can carry out any requisite adaptions to implement communication and navigation networks, alarm indication and alert equipment, data recording networks, and diagnosis and maintenance components. The company will work to increase this scope as the need arises to implement other networks.

Furthermore, it can carry out all of these tasks in most countries around the globe because implementation of the EASA standard is compulsory for its members—the European Union, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and Iceland—and is recognized through bilateral agreements in numerous other nations.

Indra has been involved in projects of this type in Spain since 2011 as a holder of the Design Organization Recognition (ROD) status from the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA). This is equivalent to the EASA accreditation but is restricted to national military aircraft. 

This recognition is expected to be soon approved for use in the military field throughout Europe (MDOA or Military DOA).

These certifications supplement the Maintenance Organization and Aircraft Component Repair Station (EASA.145.172) recognitions which Indra obtained in 2006 and renewed in 2017.

The company also has Production Organization Approval (POA—EASA.21G.013, obtained in 2008, renewed in 2016) for the IFF Transponder of the A400M, the element that allows this military transport aircraft to determine whether an aircraft is friend or foe.
