SMIT partners with industry leaders to launch in Europe world's first DVB CI Plus 2.0 conforming USB CAM prototype

HONG KONG, Nov. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- SMIT Holdings Limited ("SMIT" or the "Company," together with its subsidiaries, the "Group") (stock code: 2239), a world leading CAM supplier and a major mPOS supplier in China, has launched the world's first USB CAM prototype that conforms with DVB's CI Plus 2.0 standards together with industry leading partners namely World leading digital platform security provider Irdeto, supplier of all-in-one digital TV System-on-Chip MStar, manufacturer of all-in-one digital TV TP Vision and Rabbit Labs, which will enable the Group to rally more customers from different countries.

Currently, paid digital TV typically uses Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) format. DVB CI, which was introduced in 1996, has been prevalently used in PCMCIA products. Being bulky and having a multi-pin interface, it poses a challenge to manufactures when slim, narrow-rimmed and clean looking TV sets are more popular As such, TV manufacturers in non-European regions are not interested in increasing CI/CI+ interface. After nearly 20 years of product development, DVB Project announced in 2016 the interface specifications of USB form factor: the second generation Common Interface (CI Plus 2.0). The USB interfaces that CI Plus 2.0 uses is mainstream, coming in three or four with all-in-one digital TVs today to accommodate use of different peripheral equipment, meaning using more CAM products will not create extra product cost or design concerns among mainframe manufacturers.

Following the launch of its USB CAM product in Mainland China and South East Asia, the latest USB CAM prototype that conforms with DVB CI Plus 2.0 specifications of which the Group and its industry leading partners are launching to the world will not only allow it to develop USB products in Mainland China, South East Asia and Europe, but will also be easy for the Group to work in complement with TV manufacturers in emerging markets on product operation and enlarge market. The prototype adopts Irdeto's chip platform that boasts the highest security standards, which enables operators to receive 4K ultra HQ TV programs reliably on the USB CAM platform at lower costs.
