Spectrum Plastics Group Announces Three Fundamental Medical Business Platforms

Spectrum Plastics Group, the newly formed North American leader in the design and manufacture of custom and specialty plastics for the medical device industry, reports positive reception of the new brand and expanded capabilities. The company has been executing an integration plan for its medical division, and today announced its three fundamental medical business operating platforms: legacy; specialty; and finishing services. This announcement comes on the heels of the official brand launch, announced May 9, reporting the acquisition of Pexco and successful merge with PPC Industries, Inc. (“PPC”), a Kohlberg portfolio business which also comprises Kelpac Medical.

Mauricio Arellano, president of the Medical Division of Spectrum Plastics Group, comments, “Customers are responding very well to our brand and the value we provide to the medical device industry. As large original equipment manufacturers are seeking strategic partners that offer a greater spectrum of services and products, they need support managing the supply chain, regulatory compliance and engineering for innovative medical device development. From component manufacturing to packaging and finished device assembly, we offer the ‘one stop shop’ solution the industry desires, with the experience and expertise required for dependable, repeatable and efficient products and processes.”

Recognizing the variety of customer needs and complexity within each capability area, Spectrum Plastics Group’s medical go-to-market platforms provide a breadth and depth of expertise from a single source—and enable the individual sectors to continue serving their respective niche.

A strong medical tubing components and packaging history inherited from PPC Industries (primarily Kelpac Medical) and Pexco businesses support the “legacy” medical platform. This core area of expertise represents one of the largest medical tubing extrusion operations in the world, with a global footprint and ability to produce at scale.

The “specialty” medical platform refers to the advanced manufacturing capabilities comprised by the medical implantable and performance plastics injection molding operation out of Minneapolis, as well as the Apollo Medical Extrusion Technologies group, whereby three additional facilities for advanced extrusion and catheter technologies are linked.

Contract manufacturing and original design and manufacture operations, highlighted by the Xeridiem service brand, are managed by its “finishing services” medical platform. With new emerging markets, the need to evolve technology while meeting global regulatory requirements are notable challenges. By partnering with larger original equipment manufacturers, Spectrum Plastics Group has become a trusted partner to help OEMs drive market share and improve margins while simplifying the regulatory and supply chain landscape.

“Our finishing and value-add capabilities expand upon the legacy and specialty operating platforms of our medical business. Spectrum Plastics Group is a leader in extruded medical tubing and packaging, and our specialty sector for advanced manufacturing capabilities, notably minimally invasive and implantable products and devices” said Arellano. “We truly do offer a full spectrum of services for our customers that have embraced us as a united brand. From approved supplier lists to advancements in medical grade plastic polymers, our medical customers rely on us to help them navigate an industry that is embracing change, innovating solutions and creating efficiencies.”
