Education Video Platform Leader Announces First-Ever Universal Capture Software for Mac and Windows

WASHINGTON, Nov. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Responding to a long-standing higher education need for cross-platform video recording and sharing, leading lecture capture and video platform company Echo360 announced, today, the industry's first universal capture software for both Windows and Mac devices. With the software, faculty, students, and administrators with Mac or Windows devices can, for the first time, use the same software and interface for recording the screen of their personal device, as well as for scheduled and on-demand lecture capture in the classroom. Echo360's universal capture software will work seamlessly with Echo360's video content management and active learning capabilities in a single, smart video platform to foster active, engaged, and personalized video-based learning for improved student outcomes.

Colleges and universities are increasingly using both Windows and Mac devices, generating a need for software with consistent user interfaces and features across both operating systems - last year, 87 percent of higher education institutions reported an increase in Mac adoption on their campuses.

"As faculty, administrators, and students are increasingly recording and integrating video into the learning experience, video platforms must make capture and streaming more seamless functions in teaching and learning," said Bill Holding, Executive Vice President, Product at Echo360. "With the launch of our universal capture software, higher education will finally have easy-to-use, smart software for both lecture capture and personal screen recording, with full and consistent functionality for both Windows and Mac users."

The universal capture software will also include an updated user interface that enables users to start recording video with the press of a single button from anywhere in the software. Since the user interface is the same for Mac and Windows users, and for lecture capture and personal screen recording, Echo360 users will know how to record video regardless of which device they are using or what type of video capture they are starting - dramatically reducing the need for additional training sessions and IT support.

As the first software that will allow both Windows and Mac users to have full access to all lecture capture and personal screen recording features, an instructor can, for example, use the universal capture software to record audio and their MacBook's screen while explaining a concept to a student during their office hours, and then bring the same laptop to their classroom for a lecture capture session, providing faculty with a simpler way to integrate video capture into their courses.

The universal capture software will be available for Mac during spring 2018 and for Windows during summer 2018. This follows the release of other new features, such as a video CMS, and is part of Echo360's ongoing work to build a better video platform that engages students and enhances teaching and learning.
