Two Glen-Gery Plants Achieve OSHA VPP Star Status

WYOMISSING, Pa., Nov. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Two Glen-Gery manufacturing plants have joined the elite group of organizations that provide exemplary occupational safety and health protection. Glen-Gery's Hanley and Mid-Atlantic brick plants have been approved for participation in the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Status by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

VPP recognizes companies for outstanding safety and health management systems and for maintaining injury and illness rates below national Bureau of Labor Statistics averages for their respective industries. Both Glen-Gery manufacturing sites received "Star" status, OSHA's highest VPP certification level.

To participate, employers must submit an application to OSHA and undergo a rigorous onsite evaluation, including employee interviews, by a team of safety and health professionals.

A formal ceremony with guest speakers, including Pennsylvania government officials and OSHA representatives, was held at Glen-Gery's Hanley Plant on November 9. A ceremony will be held for the Mid-Atlantic Plant this Spring.

"VPP certification is an incredible achievement and reflects the hard work, dedication and commitment of our employees. I am extremely proud that two of our plants were able to achieve such distinction less than three months apart," said John Vrobel, Glen-Gery Vice President of Production. "As ambassadors for VPP, these plants will serve as mentor sites for our other facilities and to other companies seeking to achieve VPP status."

Approximately 100 sites in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and less than 1,400 across the United States are participating in the VPP program with "Star" certification. Glen-Gery's Hanley and Mid-Atlantic are the second and third brick plant sites in the U.S. to achieve VPP "Star" certification.

The Glen-Gery Hanley Plant is a 367,000-square foot, state-of-the-art facility that has the capacity to produce 50 million brick per year. It is the only brick plant in the United States manufacturing glazed and klaycoat products with the ability to make and match custom colors. The Mid-Atlantic Plant is a 400,000-square foot facility, with the capacity of 90 million brick annually, and is known nationwide for its molded brick and custom molded shape capabilities.
