SAP Ariba Fuels Procurement with Purpose

All businesses want to do well. But many also want to do good. And with SAP Ariba, they can. Leveraging the company’s business network and the cloud-based applications delivered on it, procurement organizations can connect their purchases to purposes and in addition to saving money and driving efficiencies, make a difference in the world. To fuel their efforts, SAP Ariba today announced that it will donate a portion of proceeds from purchases made using SAP Ariba® Spot Buy™ throughout December to hurricane relief efforts.

“Businesses have begun to embrace the idea of going beyond the functional value they provide by aligning with a cause and procurement is in a unique position to lead the charge,” says Alex Atzberger, President, SAP Ariba.

Collectively, the Global 2000 – more than 75 percent of which are connected to the Ariba® Network - spend $12 trillion on goods and services annually.

“These companies have the buying power to ensure they provide fair labor practices across their supply chain. That they make opportunities available to minority and women-owned businesses. That no slave labor is being used to make their products. And that the communities in which they live and work remain vibrant,” Atzberger adds. “Our mission at SAP Ariba is to deliver solutions that inspire and empower them to do this.”

Procuring with Purpose

One such solution is SAP Ariba Spot Buy, a unique offering that enables companies to create a consumer-like shopping experience through which users can quickly find and immediately buy thousands of contracted and non-contracted items from suppliers in accordance with their company’s procurement policies and procedures and in line with their social responsibility goals. Companies can, for instance, create catalogs for products that support Product Red and help in efforts to eliminate HIV/AIDS in African countries.

Next month, SAP Ariba will donate a portion of proceeds from purchases made using SAP Ariba Spot Buy to One America Appeal, an organization that is helping those affected by the recent hurricanes across Florida, Texas and the Caribbean. “Like so many of our customers, SAP Ariba is a purpose-driven company,” said Tony Alvarez, General Manager, SAP Ariba Spot Buy. “And we are pleased to be joining forces with them to achieve our shared mission to not only make procurement awesome, but have a positive impact on society.”

In addition to SAP Ariba Spot Buy, SAP Ariba offers a variety of solutions that companies can use to procure with purpose. Made in a Free World has built the world’s first software to identify the risks of forced labor in supply chains. By connecting intelligence from the company’s Global Slavery Database with the purchasing process of companies connected to the Ariba Network and automatically delivering it through SAP Ariba Supplier Risk™, SAP Ariba can help companies pinpoint hot spots of risk and build customized action plans to mitigate it.

ConnXus provides supplier diversity software solutions that help companies drive responsible and sustainable sourcing, including a database that allows them to easily search for certified, diverse suppliers by location, certifying agency, diversity classification and more. In linking this database to SAP Ariba Discovery™, SAP Ariba can help buyers discover and connect with diverse suppliers and open the door to new relationships and business opportunities.

Making Procurement Awesome

“What makes procurement awesome is the collective purpose of the profession, Atzberger says. “And when you see like-minded organizations coming together to move beyond doing what’s right for their business and acting to improve people’s lives, it’s truly humbling.”
