New World Medical Accepting Applications for the 2018 Humanitarian Grant and Fellowship Award

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif., Dec. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- New World Medical, Inc., a privately-held ophthalmic company dedicated to developing cutting-edge glaucoma medical devices intended to alleviate the suffering of patients globally, is proud to announce that they are accepting applications for the annual Humanitarian Grant and Fellowship Award through January 31(st), 2018.

Building on the company's mission to preserve and enhance vision by delivering innovations to all of humanity, the New World Medical Humanitarian Grant provides $50,000 in funding each year to a non-profit or academic institution providing ophthalmic care and training in developing health systems. The award recipient will be selected based on the organization's potential to enhance global ophthalmic care. The annual New World Medical Fellowship Award offers $10,000 in travel support for a minimum of one ophthalmic medical mission in a developing nation within a single academic year to a glaucoma fellow dedicated to making global humanitarian work an integral part of their career.

The 2017 Humanitarian Grant recipient was Sight for Souls, a US-based charity dedicated to catalyzing blindness alleviation and building capacity through residency and subspecialty training of ophthalmologists in Ethiopia. Jeanie D. Ling, MD, glaucoma fellow at the University of Texas-Houston Health Science Center, was the recipient of the 2017 Fellowship Award.
