Road Scholars Places 3rd in Class at Pebble Beach

DURHAM, N.C., Aug. 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Road Scholars, one of the nation's top vintage Porsche restorers, placed 3rd in class with a rare (1 of 16) 1952 Porsche America Roadster Type 540 owned by the renowned Ingram Collection this past Sunday at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance.

"I am super proud of our of team in the way they pulled off this build in such a short period of time," said Cam Ingram, Co-owner of Road Scholars. "Usually, a restoration takes 2 to 3 years but with the dedication of our team we pulled this one off in almost 7 months. It's a huge victory to just be invited to Pebble Beach but placing 3rd with the tough competition is almost unheard of for a Porsche."

The America Roadster was up against some iconic competition including a Le Mans winning Dan Gurney driven 1966 Ford GT Mark IIB Coupe and a 1 of 1 1955 Maserati A6GCS Frua Spyder. The America Roadster also has significant history as it was owned and raced by the RV mogul John Crean and the stepdaughter of John Von Nuemann, Josie Von Nuemann, who won many races from 1952 - 1953.

Class Winners

1) 1966 Ford GT Mark IIB Coupe
2) 1955 Maserati A6GCS Frua Spyder
3) 1952 Porsche Type 540 America Roadster

"When we found out the Ingram Collection's America Roadster was accepted to compete late last year we wanted to give the car the best chance to win and that meant to completely restore the car. The car was previously restored in the mid 80s but was not near the condition it needed to be in to win, despite its history," said Cam Ingram.

This past Sunday marks the fourth time Road Scholars has shown at Pebble Beach Concours and is also the 4th award given to a car Road Scholars has restored, including a 1949 Porsche Gmund owned by the Porsche family (1st in Class - 2011).

Past Wins by Road Scholars

1) 1949 Porsche Gmund Coupe (1st in Class - 2011)
2) 1975 Porsche 911 Turbo (3rd in Class - 2013)
3) 1952 Porsche 356 Cabriolet (1st in Class - 2017)
4) 1952 Porsche America Roadster Type 540 (3rd in Class - 2018)

The Pebble Beach Concours gathered over 200 hand-picked cars from around the world to be shown on the 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Course. This year, the Concours also raised an astounding $1.8 million for over 80 charities.
