Gillware Launches Cybersecurity Division Under Leadership of Information Security Expert Christopher Gerg

MADISON, Wis., Jan. 7, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Gillware, a respected incident response, digital forensics, and data recovery firm, welcomes Christopher Gerg as the Vice President of Risk Management. This key hire signals the launch of Gillware's proactive security services to better protect businesses and individuals from malicious cybercrimes.

Gerg has nearly two decades of experience leading various cybersecurity initiatives such as penetration testing, IT auditing, intrusion detection, regulatory compliance and policy development for a diverse set of businesses. As CSO and Vice President of Infrastructure and Engineering at Healthgrades, Gerg developed the risk management and reporting program for the organization. Prior to Healthgrades, Gerg was the Director of Corporate Information Security for Trustwave. In that role, he was the primary quality assurance reviewer for all PCI-DSS and PABP/PS-DSS assessments and the primary liaison for all major credit card brands. Gerg also authored the O'Reilly and Associates book "Managing Network Security with Snort and IDS Tools."

"Christopher's expertise and leadership ability complement our team of esteemed incident response investigators to provide the full scope of both reactive and proactive services," said Scott Holewinski, Chief Executive Officer of Gillware. "Our goal for 2019 and beyond is to not only help businesses recover from malicious cyberattacks, but to assist with proactive security measures to avoid attacks in the first place."

As Vice President of Risk Management, Gerg will incorporate Gillware's nimble and comprehensive approach into a suite of cybersecurity services such as penetration testing, virtual CISO services, tabletop exercises, incident response planning, team training and security audits.

"When a business or individual falls victim to a cyberattack, restoration is understandably top priority. Even so, what happens after an attack, or ideally beforehand, can drastically reduce the fallout and financial burden involved," Gerg said. "My objective is to develop a leading information security division to educate and counsel clients about the current risks and how to effectively combat them."

A recent report surveyed IT professionals at small and medium businesses and found that 67 percent experienced a cyberattack and 58 percent experienced a data breach in the last 12 months. Yet 47 percent indicated they have no understanding of how to protect their companies against cyberattacks. Gillware's expansion of services aims to address this issue and increase cybersecurity confidence and practices for businesses of all sizes.
