Lafarge Canada Launches Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship Program, Empowering Students Across Eastern Canada

Lafarge Canada partners with Indspire and five prestigious universities in Eastern Canada to launch its 'Leaders of Tomorrow' scholarship program. This initiative supports exceptional students facing financial barriers to achieving their educational goals. It fosters diversity and inclusivity in select fields and empowers students to pursue their passions and succeed.

Lafarge Canada's Leaders of Tomorrow program is part of our People and Planet Fund, established in 2023. The annual funding program aims to provide targeted charitable funds and resources to accelerate social change and transformation. Education is a key focus area, and the program will contribute $52,000 annually to support students in need, investing in a brighter future.

The Leaders of Tomorrow program offers ten scholarships valued at $4,000 each to eligible undergraduate students enrolled in partner universities:
Ecole De Technologie Superieure (ETS)
Universite de Sherbrooke
Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University)
Queen's University
University of Waterloo

The scholarships will be available to under-represented students pursuing STEM or related disciplines who demonstrate financial need. Additionally, Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) will match the Lafarge awards, resulting in a total scholarship amount of $8,000 annually for two TMU students.

"At Lafarge, our mission is to build progress, and we believe in the power of education as the foundation to drive it," said David Redfern, president and CEO, Lafarge Canada (East). "We are thrilled to partner with these prominent universities to provide financial support and mentorship opportunities to students who are passionate about learning and making a difference in the world."

In collaboration with Indspire, Lafarge will also support indigenous students pursuing higher education in various fields. The program covers tuition fees and is open to indigenous students from Ontario, demonstrating excellence and community commitment. Notably, the Federal Government will match our yearly contribution to Indspire, doubling the financial relief and enabling the support of a more significant number of Indigenous students.

Alongside financial support, recipients also gain professional development and networking opportunities, including a summer internship at Lafarge Canada (East) in their fields of interest. Career mentorship and coaching from experienced Lafarge Canada employees enhance their prospects.

"We appreciate Lafarge Canada for this great initiative," said Gabrielle Blackburn, Director of Development, Faculty of Engineering, Universite de Sherbrooke. "Students are fortunate to have donors like Lafarge supporting them on their journey to success."
