AVIATION SERVICES

Aviation Services is the business unit that encompasses aircraft maintenance, spare parts, training and aeronautical systems. Besides the Embraer-owned companies specialized in this type of activity, Embraer Aircraft Maintenance Services (EAMS) and OGMA – Indústria Aeronáutica de Portugal, located in the USA and Portugal, respectively, Embraer has its own workshops and parts warehouses in the USA, France, China, Singapore and Brazil.

In order to support its customers and provide after-sales services, Embraer offers 24-hour field support, 365 days a year.

Starting in 2006, abroad expansion program was announced for the Executive Aviation customer support network. The Company is building four new centers – three in North America and one in Europe – an investment of more than US$ 100 million. By mid-2008, this network will have a total of 45 units – seven service centers owned by Embraer and 38 authorized maintenance locations.

Continuous investments, the forging of partnerships and the establishment of units in strategic locations increasingly improve the segment, which aims for excellence in service and the ongoing successeffective establishment of the Company in this market.

EMBRAER INSTITUTE

Since its foundation in 2001, the Embraer Institute for Education and Research has focused its activities on initiatives which contribute to the process of social inclusion through Education.

The Embraer Institute is mainly acting in two areas: educational projects, targeted on students in the public school network and projects for improvement of the management process, focused on organizations of the civil society / NGOs and public schools. the management process, focused on organizations of the civil society / NGOs and public schools.

Furthermore, in 2008 investments were made in job training of people with special needs (partnership with the Municipal Administration of Sao Jose dos Campos), university entrance exam preparatory courses for students from low-income families (‘Gavião Peixoto’ and ‘Nova Europa’, partnership with UNESP) and entrepreneurship (partnership with the NGO Junior Achievement, since 2002).

In order to guide its decisions and practices, criteria have been established which reflect Embraer Institute’s experstise, its corporate culture, the employees’ commitment and the community environment where the projects are implemented. These criteria are applied in a transparent and consistent way in selecting initiatives which will be given support, and analogically in projects started and guided by the Institute itself.

Besides their technical criteria, Embraer Institute’s initiatives also reflect three types of concerns: quality; innovation; costs.

The quality of our social investment projects partially derives from the Company’s policy of requesting from Embraer Institute standards similar to those achieved in its range of products. In the aircraft industry, quality is an absolute value and we strongly believe that there is a real possibility of improving Brazilian public education, beginning with managerial improvements and without any significant increase in costs, which has encouraged us to develop alternative models capable of successfully meeting the needs of determined segments of the public education network.

Innovation is another priority of Embraer Institute. If it didn’t come up with its own proposals to be tested and made available, the Institute would be expected to limit its work scope to distributing grants among institutions whose objectives and operational standards are satisfactory. However, Embraer Institute is part of a high-tech company competing on a worldwide scale; the topics of Education and Management are present in Embraer’s daily routine and, as a consequence, we are commited to discussing these issues, giving support to improving the education quality and increasing the degree of social inclusion of talented young people from low-income families.

All the financial resources invested by Embraer Institute, be it in own projects or in partnerships, are provided by Embraer, its sole maintainer.

TECHNOLOGY & SAFETY

Embraer has the highest production standards, which start with our commitment to enterprise excellence. The P3E program pursues continuous improvement for Embraer’s people and processes, and is one of the pillars of our responsibility for producing a product that involves so much technology and so many safety procedures as those found in an airplane.

Besides employee preparation, Embraer and its training partners offer all aircraft operators a comprehensive set of technical training courses. The company's responsibility is also reflected in the design, manufacture and airworthiness certifications earned by our aircraft in Brazil and abroad. Certification is a legal and mandatory procedure for civil aviation, in which Embraer must demonstrate that the product complies with safety regulations defined by the certifying authority.

The safety of Embraer products is one of the pillars for generating value. The Company’s safety policy takes a proactive approach during the entire product life cycle, in order to ensure that Embraer’s safety standards are met and exceed the minimum standards set by aeronautic certifications.

New products, or even modifications in previously certified designs, are only disclosed to the operators after a formal demonstration of compliance with safety requirements and the resulting approval by the civil aviation authority.

Product safety performance is continuously monitored in conjunction with customers.
