CIDET – The Corporation Center for Technical Research and Development of the Electrical Sector is a non-profit organization, backed by a large number of companies in the sector, which since 1995 provides services to companies for the improvement of their productivity.

CIDET performs the following activities:

  • Research industry trends to keep electric power companies and their related informed of the changes that occur in different global issues.
  • Identifies electricity industry needs and articulate resources by Research and Development Projects in order to satisfy those needs and to develop the sector.
  • Offers its clients services of electrical product certification and management systems of both environmental quality and to help them improve their internal management and quality of products they offer.
  • Provides guidance and technical support through general or specialized training to the needs of each client's market and to strengthen the technical capabilities of firms.
  • Conducts inspections of the facilities once they are built to ensure security against electrical risks.

CIDET as the Center for Research and Technological Development of the Electricity Sector in Colombia, has the mission to promote the inclusion of the Colombian electricity industry at the international level based on improving the sector’s competitiveness, and as an articulating body should play a leading role in partnering initiatives for the promotion. Currently, CIDET is coordinating the Productive Transformation Program for Electricity Sector in Colombia that aims to bring this sector to a world class sector.

History

1984 - The CIDET was born as the National Industry Protection and Development Committee, and headed by ISA to cover needs that existed at a national level regarding the quality of goods required by the Electrical Sector.

1985 - This committee, with participation from diverse sector companies and regulating entities, became the Quality Committee to coordinate quality issues, experiences with providers, and supplies for the Sector.

1995 - Because of ISA’s spin-off, and together with the Quality Committee, CIDET was formed to continue with the activities conducted for the sector.

1999 - The CIDET receives accreditation from the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce-SIC, to Certify Products under Technical Norms.

2002 - The CIDET receives accreditation from the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce-SIC, to Certify Quality Systems under NTC-ISO 9001 Norm.

2005 - The CIDET receives accreditation from the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce-SIC, to Certify Products under The RETIE.

2006 - The CIDET receives accreditation from the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce-SIC, to Certify Environmental Management Systems under NTC-ISO 14001 Norm.

2006 - The CIDET receives accreditation from the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce-SIC, to Inspect Electrical Installations with The RETIE.

2006 - The first International Fair of the Electrical Sector - FISE 2006, the only specialized fair for the Sector in the country, is successfully conducted in conjunction with the City of Medellin Mayor’s Office and the Chamber of Commerce of Medellin for Antioquia.

2007 – Second version of International Fair of the Electrical Sector - FISE 2007.

2009 – Third version of International Fair of the Electrical Sector - FISE 2007.

2010 – 15th CIDET’s anniversary.

2011 – Inauguration of CIDET’s Electrical Testing and Metrology Laboratory.

2011 – Technology Strategic Intelligence Unit - UIET (Spanish abbreviation) starts up.

RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT & INNOVATION

CIDET’s research and technological development activities aims to response to the challenges and needs of the Colombian electricity sector, through knowledge transfer, project management, technological monitoring and cooperation networks among another technological tools that have contributed to strengthening the sector.

PRODUCT CERTIFICATION

It is a procedure through which an independent entity grants written proof that a specific product meets the requirements of a specific normative document. This document can be a Colombian or an International technical norm, or a technical regulation.

ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS INSPECTION

An inspection is the revision of an electrical installation through observation, verification, evaluation, measuring, and searching for objective evidence, to indicate that a job was developed in compliance with The Technical Regulation of Electrical Installations – RETIE.

MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS CERTIFICATION

Quality management systems certification is a procedure through which an independent entity grants written proof that the management system of an organization meets the requirements established by different international norms. In The CIDET’s case, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 180001.

LABORATORY

The CIDET offers Electrical Testing, Metrology and Chemical Analysis of Insulating Materials Laboratory - CIDET. These services are focused on conducting tests to demonstrate the compliance with the requirements of technical regulations and standards, to develop products and to support Electricity Sector research processes.

CIDET ACADEMY: VIRTUAL & SPECIALIZED TRAINING FOR THE ELECTRICITY SECTOR

CIDET Academy promotes increased productivity and competitiveness of the Colombian electricity sector by supporting education and training through the provision of virtual and specialized training, business graduates and events, for the continuous improvement of work teams and management processes wsith due appropriation of knowledge in the organization.

RESEARCH IN THE COLOMBIAN ELECTRICAL SECTOR

Markets globalization and the high-knowledge/high-technological content of the electrical industry, demand that companies concentrate efforts in their competitive development through long-term strategies based on innovation. This is accomplished through structured learning processes coherent with permanent activities of research and of technological development.

RESEARCH & MANAGEMENT OF CIDET PROJECTS

The CIDET, through its Research and Project Management area, advances in a coherent process regarding the promotion of technological development and innovation for an effective benefit of the electrical sector. This is in conformity with the Sector’s complexity at the technological, regulatory and competitivy levels.
 
Therefore, CIDET identifies, formulates, manages human, technical and financial resources; and executes projects concerning the development of the competitivity, and the insertion capacities, of the Colombian electrical sector in the international field. In this manner can fulfill its role as articulators and managers of projects between the industry, the academia, companies and sector entities.

RESEARCH GROUP

According to the CIDET’s purposes and objectives and in agreement with the strategic guidelines stipulated in its R&D model, five transversal areas, in which The CIDET must develop its competences in order to conduct research of sectorial character, were identified.
 
In this sense, CIDET’s research group is consolidated with the following research lines:

  • Energy markets modeling.
  • Electric Mobility.
  • Economic regulation of energy markets.
  • Technological monitoring and foresight.

LABORATORY

The laboratory is accredited by the National Accreditation Agency of Colombia - ONAC (Spanish abbreviation) according to NTC-ISO-IEC17025, which ensures high quality and reliability of service.
