Bazalt

Joint Stock Company “Scientific Production Association “Bazalt” (JSC “SPA “Bazalt”) develops and manufactures up-to-date ammunition for the Land Forces, Air Force and Navy. The ammunition developed by JSC “SPA “Bazalt” are in the inventory of Armed Forces of over 100 countries of the world. In total, over 800 models of ammo adopted for service have been developed by Bazalt’s specialists.

On April 21, 1938 State Union Design Bureau # 47 (SUDB-47) was established pursuant to the Enactment of the Defense Committee under the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR, it was to provide fast and efficient development of aircraft bombs. Since December 2012, the Company is called Joint Stock Company “Scientific Production Association “Bazalt” whose sole stock holder is the State Corporation “Russian Technologies” (“Rostech”). The Company is structurally included in the Scientific Production Concern “Engineering Technologies” (JSC “SPC “Techmash”) of the State Corporation “Russian Technologies” (“Rostech”).

Throughout Enterprise’s 75-year history, its activity has totally been aimed at strengthening Russia’s defense capability. JSC “SPA “Bazalt” comprises three design bureaus, a research centre, a research and technological section, a mechanical, assembling/filling and testing division located in Krasnoarmeisk, a mechanical/assembling division located in Tula and a plant located in Nerekhta.

Such association makes it possible to create new model of ammo as per the full product-life cycle: R&D – manufacturing – testing – putting into series production – production and supply of product batches to customers with subsequent Designer’s supervision.

JSC “SPA “Bazalt” designs, develops and produces the following items: unguided aircraft bombs; grenade launcher systems; mortar rounds; rounds for SP and towed artillery systems functioning in the “mortar/gun” mode;hand grenades.

In 2002 the Enterprise was granted the right to direct foreign trade with regard to military-purpose products including supply of spare parts, components, training equipment, survey, extension of service life, repairs (with product modernization, as well), disposal and other kinds of work to ensure comprehensive service maintenance of the previously supplied military-purpose produce. Today, the military-purpose products developed by the Enterprise and approved for export supplies includes over 200 nominations and is supplied to 23 countries.

Aircraft bomb - SPA “Bazalt” is the head and sole organization in Russia and CIS which provides for a full product life-cycle including designing, manufacturing and disposal of aircraft bombs. Aircraft bombs as one of the main kinds of ammo are included in armament of AF assault aircraft complexes, Navy aviation and Army aviation helicopter complexes including current and advanced carrier aircraft.

Mortar/Artillery Rounds - Mortar armament is one of the most important kinds of the Land Forces fire means intended for defeating manpower (sheltered or located on open terrain), soft-skinned and lightly-armored materiel, for destructing field fortifications. Its basic advantages include relatively low weight, design and operation simplicity, high rate of fire, high efficiency, low cost. The chief value of this armament is ensured by its capability of high-angle firing (from sheltered fire emplacements) over a wide range of fire distances which is extremely important at conducting combat actions under cross-country conditions (in mountains, in built-up areas etc.), that is under conditions when the use of other kinds of artillery means is constrained.

Grenade launcher systems - The role of combat elements and independent fighting groups in attaining success on the battlefield has been continuously increasing, as experience in combat operations in recent local wars and conflicts shows. In combat, soldiers have to effectively engage hostile weapon emplacements organized in various man-made and natural shelters. The number and types of these shelters sharply increase if combat operations are conducted in populated or in mountainous forest areas. In these conditions, it appears next to impossible to defeat the enemy by small arms only.

Anti-saboteur Grenade Launcher Weapons - Anti-saboteur grenade launcher weapons developed by SPA “Bazalt” are one of the most important components of anti-saboteur defense of the nearest zone of operational deployment and isolated naval and coastal installations. In terms of its performance characteristics the developed systems have no counterparts in the world.
