Defence Industries Corporation (DICON)

The DEFENCE INDUSTRIES CORPORATION (DICON) of Nigeria was established by an Act of Parliament in 1964. Consequently, a West German manufacturing firm, Fritz Werner, was assigned the task of providing technical expertise and setting up the ordnance Factory in Kaduna.

DEFENCE INDUSTRIES CORPORATION (DICON) was primarily established to produce small arms and ammunition for use by the Nigerian Army and other security agencies. The Company also uses its excess capacity to produce machinery spare parts and other products for civilian use.

The Company’s mission is to manufacture and supply arms and ammunition, as well as inspect, test and recommend ordnance materiel intended for use by the Armed Forces and other security organizations, while using the excess capacity to support the development of the local Industries.

DICON produces the following military products: NR-Light Automatic Rifles (LAR), Sub-Machine Guns (SMG) and General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG).
