VCS 3020X

The FREQUENTIS VCS 3020X, which is based on the know-how and experience built into the world's most proven voice communication platform – the VCS 3020 – offers the most advanced VCS solution with the biggest number of implemented features. The fully digital voice communication system is designed for the application in medium and large sized ATC centres and is installed in some of the largest and prominent ATC centres worldwide. The VCS 3020X is the pinnacle of the experience accumulated in the past 50 years. After all FREQUENTIS has installed more than 10,000 positions in over 40 countries.

The system uses the proven VCS 3020X application software and the latest peripheral hardware for interfaces and operator positions. This exciting design offers future-proof switching technology combined with a sound architecture.

FREQUENTIS has chosen an evolutionary approach. The latest VCS 3020X Release 4.1 already prepares the migration to IP environments and IP based voice switching. An open architecture, commercially off the shelf available rack system parts and industrial standards like IP technology are characteristics important to the ATC community.

ATC Network Infrastructure
FREQUENTIS provides advanced systems for the networking demands of civil and military air traffic management applications. The multi-protocol router VCX interfaces ATC communications to various public networks.

Open architecture -including migration to IP-, cost-savings and improved safety are key demands future ATC-equipment has to respond to. In this context the network integration of different ATC-service types is one of the decisive factors for realising a flexible and effective ATC-environment.


The FREQUENTIS VCX combines IP Routing/Switching facilities and distributed TDM-switching with scalable processing power.

By unifying currently separated domains the FREQUENTIS VCX network node opens the system to the customer’s integrated services network for ATC data and voice applications.

Compared to standard telecom equipment the FREQUENTIS VCX offers tailored services for ATC. These features include:

• Network flexibility (special routing strategies for data and voice designed for ATC, fast re-establishment of data/voice links, e.g.)
• Safety (127 priority levels for data AND voice, high level of redundancy, integrated contingency/business resumption concept, low transit delays, e.g.)
• Special ATC-features (message duplication for radar data, remote control of equipment, special compression algorithms, e.g.)

Tower and Airport Tools
ADD - Aerodrome Data Display - is the first unit that makes up Tower and Airport Tools. ADD integrates and displays airport-relevant data for air traffic controllers, such as weather information, navigational aid status or Meteo-reports - on one single device.

Touch Entry Devices
With the PowerPanel, FREQUENTIS is in the position to use a touch entry device based controller working position as a standard solution that excels even in the toughest environments like control towers.

MFC Terminal

The FREQUENTIS MFC-Terminal features comprehensive functionality combined with maximum user friendliness due to its microprocessor based control logic and powerful application software.

Voice/Data Recording
The FREQUENTIS DIVOS log is the latest version of the fully digital Voice Recorder and Replay System (VRRS). It has been designed and developed using FREQUENTIS extensive experience and know-how particularly in the area of air-traffic control.

DIVOS log does not only meet the most demanding recording requirements, but also provides value added features and functions such as data recording, voice and data synchronisation, security, system management, etc.

Air Defence

VCS 3020XM-MIL


The FREQUENTIS VCS 3020XM, which is based on the know-how and experience built into the world's most proven voice communication platform – the VCS 3020 –, offers the most advanced VCS solution with the biggest number of implemented features.

The FREQUENTIS VCS XM is a fully digital Voice Communication System designed for the application in medium and large sized Military Airbases and Operations Centres.

Based on redundant parallel operating core switches with duplicated PCM/TDMA highways the FREQUENTIS VCS 3020XM provides reliable communication services and extensive functionality. No hot-standby switching is necessary and therefore in case of a failure no remarkable speech loss can be recognized which would be a big threat in Air Defence.

Due to decentralised call control, redundancy actions are extremely fast and unremarkable for the user. Full scalability and modularity gives the easy possibility for future expansions.

The latest Touch Panel technology based on 32-bit RISC-processors in combination with a user-friendly and situative layout especially designed for Air Defence gives the controller a comprehensive tool for coping with the workload.

Military Applications

Most people only get to see the company’s final products, whether it is a tower application, an Air Defence Centre or a large Country Wide Air Defence Network System. The Military Applications aim to highlight some of the many solutions being developed by

FREQUENTIS that go into making these products what they are.
FREQUENTIS Voice Communication Systems offer a full range of military air traffic control and air defence solutions. From small tower systems extended with the FREQUENTIS Airbase Management System (AMS) to large Communication Networks including a network wide Mission Management and Role Management System.

The full range of applications can be provided as fixed or deployable systems. FREQUENTIS also manages Search and Rescue duties for combat SAR such as Disaster Relief Systems. According to specific military customer needs FREQUENTIS solutions are based on the well proven VCS 302X series. This enables the company to offer outstanding complementary capability to international customers across the main defence sectors, as well as in the civil Air Traffic Control or Public Safety Command and Control market.

i. AMS
Airbase Management System (AMS)

The Airbase Management System (AMS) offers all the features required to meet all voice communication and remote control requirements within military Airbases, integrated into one system.

A fully digital, highly reliable voice switch is the central communication component and allows easy access to the various civil and military radio and telephone networks via a modular user interface.

The integrated intercom system allows quick access to operation centres on the airbase. In the event of an emergency, a separate emergency network informs all operation centres at the touch of a single button.

The control of the runway lights and additional airbase facilities, together with uninterrupted power supply and ergonomically designed consoles, are all part of the AMS system.

ii. IMS
Incident Management System (IMS) / Search and Rescue (SAR)

The Incident Management System (IMS) is primarily designed for the special needs of military search and rescue organizations and operations.
The main component is a voice communication system, which is connected to various telephone and radio networks. The benefits are full radio coverage of huge land, air and sea areas combined with the ability to co-ordinate air surveillance within local areas.
In order to optimally support the operator in accessing all necessary information, the communication system inter-operates with a command and control computer system, whose database contains all information pertaining to both ongoing and completed missions. The Geographic Information System (GIS) displays maps, including additional mission information stored by the operator. This allows an area-oriented search for information in the map and database. The connection to multiple data networks offers immediate access to different information sources.
All communication components can be controlled directly through the workstation. The connection between the database and the voice switch optimizes the operational workflow.

iii. Deployable Systems

FREQUENTIS Deployable Systems are flexible, scaleable and configurable voice communication systems that provide both voice and data functions for deployable communication operations.

It is a state-of-the-art ground-to-ground, ground-to-air and shore-to-ship communications infrastructure designed to transmit and receive voice and data communications securely to or from any combination of wireless, satellite or landline sources. This system is both mobile and modular, providing the Armed Forces with the flexibility to tailor the system to its specific needs and to transport the system anywhere in the world.

Ideal for quick deployment, crisis response and contingency operations, these systems offer maximum capability in a compact mobile shelter configuration as they can be deployed as an entire system or as split systems.

The Deployable System can be housed in all standard military-purpose mobile containers.

iv. Networking
Military Voice/Data Networks

As an integral part of its systems architecture, FREQUENTIS is aggressively moving forward to provide networking solutions across its suite of Internet working switches. FREQUENTIS solutions also provide the scalability, interoperability and increased dedicated throughput required as military users evolve toward next generation military networks.

Interconnecting with existing platforms is part of the FREQUENTIS network philosophy together with integration of commercial off-the-shelf network components.
