D.F.Vasconcellos is a high precision optical and mechanics industry specialized in
optical products for military and civilian purposes. In the military line,
D.F.Vasconcellos has a large experience in manufacturing periscopes, prismatic
binoculars, telescopes, goniometers, daylight sighting scopes, reflex gun sights, nose
and tail fuzes for bombs, motor rockets and warheads 2,75 inch. Besides this, we have a strong production of civilian optical products, mainly in the medical line, including microscopes, colposcopes, slit lamps, keratometers and accessories.

THE BEGINNING A NEW INDUSTRY

Founded in April 1941, in the city of Sao Paulo (SP), D.F.Vasconcellos began its
activities with the manufacturing of DEPRESSION TELEMETERS for Artillery for
Coast Defense, ordered by the Brazilian Army.During its first 10 years of activity, the company dedicated itself exclusively to the manufacturing of military instruments such as: telemeters, prismatic binoculars, goniometers, compasses, binocular periscopic telescopes, stereoscopes, mortar collimators and telescopes for observation, thus acquiring and developing technology in the areas of fine mechanics and optical systems, in a pioneering initiative which launched the basis for Brazil’s autonomy in this sector.

Starting in 1951, the company entered the civilian market, manufacturing prismatic
binoculars and some models of magnifying glasses and telemagnifying glasses, thus
gradually evolving in its production until reaching a diversified line of high precision
optical instruments, particularly for utilization in the field of medicine.
In 1956 the company became an incorporated company, changing its official name to
D.F.Vasconcellos SA - Óptica e Mecânica de Alta Precisão, which remains so to this
date. It is remarkable its active participation in the development of the medical market, specially on the microsurgery field in Brazil, initiated with the project of its first surgical microscope, launched in 1962. More than 35.000 surgical microscopes
manufactured by D.F.Vasconcellos are today installed in hospitals and clinics in
Brazil and in 66 other countries. Always a pioneer, D.F. Vasconcellos, along its
history, has also accumulated experience in association with world famous companies, with emphasis to the manufacturing of photographic cameras with AGFA
(Germany), of microscope with LEITZ (Germany) and of automobile carburetors with
BENDIX (U.S.A.)

In the 1970’s the company diversified its activities to defense material, becoming a
supplier of fuzes, bombs and air-ground rockets for the Armed Forces, and expanded
its line of military optics with the development of periscopes for armored vehicles.

From 1983 to 1986 the company managed, under contract signed with the Aerospace Technical Center, the air-air Piranha missile project.
BRIEF UPDATED POSITION ON THE MARKET
D.F.Vasconcellos has introduced itself in the electric-optronic field, with the
development of various military Night Observation equipments, the nationalization of
a Reflection Sight (head-up-display) with SAAB’s (Sweden) technology, to equip
EMBRAER’s T27 (Tucano) aircraft, and, together with Prólogo (IMBEL), has also
nationalized an approximation fuse, for 40 mm ammo, with BOFORS’ technology
(Sweden).

In 1999 the company received the CERTIFICATE OF HOMOLOGATION OF
ENTERPRISE issued by the Ministry of Aeronautics - Research and Development
Department - Aerospace Technical Center - RBIA-04.
This Certificate, issued based on the IMA 78-2 Brazilian Requirements for Aerospace
Industry, duly authorizes D.F.Vasconcellos S.A. - Óptica e Mecânica de Alta Precisão
to manufacture armaments.
