The Institute of Physical Electronics was founded in 1994 after the
reorganization of the Scientific Center of Semiconductor Microelectronics
"Microlira" of Kaunas Institute of Radio Measurement Technique.
In 2003, the Institute was reorganized into a Research Institute, having
the status of the University Institute. Functions of the founder were
entrusted to Kaunas University of Technology.
Currently the Institute of Physical Electronics, has 31 employees and
houses facilities of a total area of 1100 m2 located in the city of
Kaunas in Lithuania.
KTU’s Major research activities:

Nanotechnologies:
- thin films and surface engineering (physics and
applications)
- application of ion and plasma methods for formation
of nanostructures and nanomaterials,

Optical document security:
- microoptical elements, interference filters,
- development of new materials and structures
