Additionally, Lockheed Martin, manufacturer
of the C-130, provides AIROD, engineering support in terms of
engineering data and on-site C-1 30 specialist engineering assistance
when the need arises. In recognition of AIROD's quality repair
standards, the USAF has awarded authorization for two AI ROD
engineers from the Systems Research Group (SRG) to provide on-site
engineering to resolve structural and material discrepancies
for any USAF C-130 aircraft at AI ROD facility without having
to cross-refer back to USAF Contracting Center at Warner Robins
Air Logistics Center (WR-ALC).
COMPANY EXPERIENCE
A) Hercules C130 Aircraft
AIROD is a certified Lockheed Hercules Service Center - the
first in the region. Lockheed Martin has pledged its full technical
and logistic support for AIROD to repair, overhaul and perform
depot level maintenance of C 1 30/L 1 00 aircraft. AIROD is
also an authorized Repair Center for a number of Collins avionics
equipment.
To date, AIROD has completed more than two
hundred (200) maintenance, repair and overhaul on C-1 30/L 1
OOs, including major modifications, structural repairs including
VVIP/vIP interior refurbishment, in which about one hundred
and twenty C-130s are from USAF (PACAF).
Since 1977, AIROD has provided heavy maintenance,
modification and refurbishment services to more than sixty (60)
C-130 aircraft for the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF). Currently,
AIROD performs heavy maintenance on up to three (3) RMAF's C-130
aircraft per year.
Since 1986, AIROD has performed six (6) Structural
Integrity Program (S.I.P) on the Indonesian Air Force C-130H-30
and L-100-30 VVIP/vIP aircraft as well as repair and overhaul
of C- 1 30 components.
In October 1994, the Indonesian Air Force
awarded AIROD the contract to undertake Service Life Extension
Programme (SLEP) for two of their Hercules Tanker C-1 30B aircraft.
The program was undertaken between November 1994 and March 1996.
In September 1994, AIROD was selected through
direct negotiations for Programmed Depot Maintenance (PDM) of
Philippine Air Force (PAF) C-130H aircraft. The first aircraft
was completed and delivered in May 1994. Two more aircraft underwent
an extensive PDM programme and were delivered in September 1996
and June 1997 respectively. AIROD also sent a technical team
in March 1998 to the Philippines to undertake a structural repair
(Vertical Beam) on one of the PAF's C-130H.
In 1990, on a competitive bid basis and under
an open international tender, the United States Air Force (USAF)
selected AI ROD as its C-130 overhaul contractor for both the
5-year Programmed Depot Maintenance (PDM) and the 3-year Corrosion
Control & Inspection Programme (CCIP). Under these two contracts,
AIROD carried out PDM/CCIP on approximately 14 USAF C-130 aircraft
a year. In December 1994, based on our previous performance
the United States Air Force once again selected AIROD as its
C-130 overhaul contractor for the next two and a half years.
Under this contract AIROD performed PDM on twenty-one (21) USAF
C-1 30 aircraft.
In December 1996, AIROD was again awarded
by USAF (PACAF) another 6 years PDM contract, which is currently
running. This contract is further extended until 30 September
2003.
AIROD has also successfully converted two
(2) of the RMAF's C-130H-MP (maritime patrol version) to dual-role
tanker / transports, using Flight Refueling Limited (FRL) MK32B
air-to-air refueling pods and roll-on/roll-off fuselage tank.
The fitting and removals of the refueling system can take place
within six (6) hours, giving genuine role change flexibility
between transport and tanker. This programme was completed in
June 1997.
AIROD has also installed various type of weather
radar such as Primus 500, Primus 700, ANI APS 133 and ANI APS
128 for Royal Malaysian Air Force, Indonesian Air Force and
Philippines Air Force on their C-1 30's aircraft. For the Royal
Malaysian Navy, AI ROD has also successfully refurbished six
(6) of its Westland Wasp Has Mk 1 helicopters since 1993.
RMAF being satisfied with the service provided
by AIROD has contracted AIROD to provide maintenance from Second
Line Servicing (Intermediate) level onwards. This concept has
been adopted by many air forces in the world as it allows the
air force to focus on its primary function of providing air
support while maintenance is left to defense contractors. Presently
AIROD personnel are stationed in five (5) airbases to perform
intermediate maintenance.
In December 2002, AIROD successful delivered
the second Royal Malaysian AirForce (RMAF) Hercules C-130H (M30-06)
after Stretch Modification. The contract with the Government
of Malaysia called for the stretch modification of two C-130H
aircraft. The first stretched C-130H aircraft was delivered
on 23rd April 2002. The second Stretch Modification was totally
undertaken by AIROD's Production Team of 25 Malaysian personnel.
It underwent a successful flight test by RMAF aircrew, which
included a long-range flight. The Government of Malaysia and
AI ROD are in the final stage of signing a second contract for
Stretch Modification of two additional C-1 30 aircraft. With
the successful first stretch modification program, AIROD was
certified by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Lockheed
Martin Aeronautics Company, as an Authorized Stretch Modification
Center. AI ROD is only the third facility in the world to have
undertaken C-1 30 Stretch Modification.
B) J85-21
Engines (GE)
AIROD have a technical assistance agreement support with General
Electric (GE) since 1991. GE provides full technical and logistic
support for AIROD to perform Periodic Examination (PE) and repair
of J85-21 AlBIC engines. As of to date, AIROD has completed more
than 84 repairs and PE on J85 engines.
