Statement from Telos CEO John B. Wood on Cybersecurity Executive Order

Telos® Corporation CEO and chairman John B. Wood issued the following after today’s signing of “Presidential Executive Order on Strengthening the Cybersecurity of Federal Networks and Critical Infrastructure”:

“Even the most rigorous processes for managing modern cyber threats require a foundation of modern technology. Today’s cybersecurity executive order is an important step forward in the modernization of federal agencies by instructing them to use shared IT services and move to the cloud. For years, I have strongly advocated to agencies that a move to cloud is critically important to improving cybersecurity, and hopefully today’s order can be the impetus for true modernization.

“Similarly, I am pleased to see that agencies will be instructed to implement the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) and view federal IT as one, unified network to measure risk appropriately. The need for a common language and collaboration across organizations is critical and I’m glad to see the order strive to fill this gap.

“The CSF will be a powerful regimen for promoting cybersecurity and enabling IT risk management throughout the government enterprise. And automation can make the framework even more efficient for continuous risk mitigation.

“Overall, this cybersecurity executive order sends a strong message that improving our nation’s cyber defense will be a top priority in the coming months and years.”
