Emergency Tech Company RapidSOS Joins Waze Connected Citizens Program

NEW YORK, June 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- RapidSOS today announced a data-sharing partnership with Waze (http://www.waze.com), the free, real-time crowdsourced traffic and navigation app powered by the world's largest community of drivers. Through this partnership, 9-1-1 Centers connected to the RapidSOS NG911 Clearinghouse will soon be able to receive live incident data from Waze, providing public safety call takers and first responders with unprecedented information around car crashes. As of today, RapidSOS provides Waze with information on car crashes reported through the RapidSOS Haven app so that oncoming traffic can receive advanced warning.

Established as a free two-way data share, Waze provides partners with real-time, anonymous, Waze-generated incident and slow-down information directly from the source: drivers themselves. In exchange, RapidSOS provides real-time incident data to Waze to return one of the most succinct, thorough overviews of current road conditions available today.

"We are thrilled to partner with Waze to provide live incident data to drivers and add another transformative data source to our NG911 Clearinghouse," said Michael Martin, CEO of RapidSOS. "Through this partnership, we have the opportunity to connect Public Safety with the Waze community, resulting in faster response times, safer roads, and lives saved nationwide."

The Waze map evolves with every driver and data point it receives, promoting safer roads and sharing more knowledge with Wazers about potential delays to their commutes. The Connected Citizens program yields even more data, giving local citizens a greater ability to circumvent car accidents within the app.

"At Waze, we are dedicated to providing our community with the best driving experience possible," said Adam Fried, Head of Global Partnerships at Waze. "By teaming up with RapidSOS, we are able to assist Public Safety in their life-saving efforts, all while ensuring that our community remains safe, informed, and connected."

It is critical that prospective partners show their dedication to citizen engagement and commit to use Waze data to improve city efficiency. Waze Partners are also expected to measure and share their findings with other municipal organizations, developing case studies that serve as keys to a global set of improvements which can be made for collective mobility.
