Denver CIOs Reveal Increased Hiring For Second Half Of 2017

DENVER, June 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Denver-area technology hiring is on the rise for the second half of 2017, according to the Robert Half Technology IT Hiring Forecast and Local Trend Report. Twenty percent of CIOs say they plan to add full-time technology professionals to their teams. In addition to hiring plans, the report also highlights technology skills in demand, CIOs' top concerns and factors contributing to local hiring growth.

"We have more companies moving to Denver, and they need professionals who can help them implement high-priority projects," said Andrew Butkus, division director for Robert Half Technology in Denver. "With Colorado's unemployment rate at an all-time low, the market for talent is extremely tight and technology professionals are in especially high demand. We're seeing that employers are expediting their hiring processes and moving quickly in order to land the best talent."

Hiring Plans and Challenges
According to the report, 20 percent of Denver CIOs plan to bring on more IT talent during the next six months, up two points from the previous report in December. An additional 60 percent expect to maintain staff levels by filling vacant roles. An active hiring environment is contributing to a competitive market for IT talent: 66 percent of Denver hiring leaders say that it's somewhat or very challenging to find skilled IT professionals in today's market.

Factors Leading to Tech Hiring in Denver
When asked what factors are most contributing to local hiring, nearly a third (30 percent) of respondents said that more businesses are moving to the area and creating jobs in technology. Other factors impacting tech hiring in Denver include:

    --  Increased digital marketing initiatives (28 percent)
    --  Increased big data initiatives (28 percent)
    --  Increased mobile initiatives (13 percent)

Skills in Demand
According to respondents, the skills in greatest demand within their organizations include:

    1. Windows administration (56 percent)
    2. Desktop support (54 percent)
    3. Telecommunications support (54 percent)
    4. Database management (53 percent)
    5. Network administration (51 percent)

Top Concerns
When asked to name their top priority for the next six months, 26 percent of Denver CIOs said they will be focused on innovation and helping to grow their businesses. Other priorities will include:

    --  Upgrading existing systems for business efficiency (21 percent)
    --  Staff retention (19 percent)
    --  Technology innovation and investing in new technologies (18 percent)
    --  Maintaining security of IT systems and safeguarding company information
        (15 percent)
