Bangor-area Toyota dealership joins fight against cancer in local fundraiser

BREWER, Maine, July 14, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Each year, more than 1.6 million people in the United States are diagnosed with cancer. This is a staggering number, which means that countless friends and family members have been impacted by this terrible disease. An invisible opponent, friends and family can feel powerless and helpless when someone they care about is afflicted. Individuals in the Bangor area can join the fight against cancer this summer alongside Downeast Toyota at the annual Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) Champion the Cure Challenge.

An important event for many members of the Downeast Toyota dealership team, those involved are encouraging local residents to join the fight with their own participation. This fundraiser will take place on Saturday, August 19 at the EMMC Cancer Care Center in Brewer and will last throughout the day. Individuals who would like to participate or donate online can learn more at emhs.convio.net. Last year, the event saw a record number of participants.

Individuals who are interested in participating can sign up for a number of events. Events include a 1K, 5K or 10K walk/run event for the casual competitor. Cyclists can sign up for a 25-, 50-, 75- or 100-mile bicycle ride that will take participants on a scenic route. Those who are more mechanically inclined can sign up for a 58.9-mile motorcycle ride. Persons not interested in participating in a race or ride can sign up as a Virtual Participant or volunteer.
