California Duo Wins Smart Manufacturing Magazine Talent Contest

DEARBORN, Mich., July 25, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Amanda Rosenblatt, marketing coordinator for Shop Floor Automations in La Mesa, California, and her friend, Greg Cross, won Smart Manufacturing magazine's first talent contest.

"Originality won the day in this contest," said Dave O'Neil, vice president of Advanced Manufacturing Media at SME. "Amanda and Greg delivered a truly entertaining rendition of the song lyrics we published in May in an effort to challenge readers to overcome the cultural divide that still has operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) professionals using different terminology, ranking priorities differently and focusing on different goals."

The winning video entry has been published on AdvancedManufacturing.org.

OT is traditionally associated with manufacturing and industrial environments and includes control systems. IT includes any use of computers, storage, networking devices and processes to create, process, store, secure and exchange all forms of electronic data. Integrating the two technological systems improves safety, security, inventory control, quality and the ability to customize production. When IT and OT systems are not converged, consequences include duplicated costs, bloated inventory, compromised plant security, injuries and even deaths.

In May, Smart Manufacturing published a cover story called "Come Together Right Now, OT/IT" (view the story here) -- in which it challenged readers to sing out about how beneficial it is for OT and IT to work together.
