The top three revenue-generating product segments of the global industrial air cleaners market are discussed below:

HEPA filters

The rising demand for power and cleaner solutions has led to the increasing use of gas turbines. Countries in Asia such as China and India are expected to contribute significantly to the demand for HEPA filters owing to a large number of ongoing gas power plant projects.

According to Gaurav Mohindru, a lead engineering tools research analyst from Technavio, “Power plants with natural gas-fired turbines are both economical and environment-friendly, especially since natural gas prices are low at present. This is one of the most prominent drivers in this market. Also, the growth of the global industrial filters market by HEPA filters is also supported by the development of combined-cycle gas turbine technologies.”

Electrostatic precipitators

The method of dust collection using electrostatic forces is known as electrostatic precipitation. The process makes use of discharge wires and collecting plates. An electrical field is formed between the plates and wires by the application of high-voltage current to the discharge wires.

“The increasing emphasis on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from power plants will be the key factor driving the demand for electrostatic precipitators in the next five years. Moreover, the increase in thermal power generation is also expected to provide opportunities for vendors in the global industrial air cleaners market by electrostatic precipitators,” adds Gaurav.

Ion and ozone generators

Air ionizers or negative ion generators are used to remove airborne particles from the air. The electrodes in the ionizers attract airborne particles. These ionizers are equipped with two electrostatically charged plates, which produce negatively charged gas ions. The particulate matter sticks to these ions.

Ozone generators, however, are different from ionizers. Ozone generators attract an extra oxygen ion to form an O2 molecule. This is done either by a corona discharge tube or ultra-violet light. At concentrations complying with the public health standards, ozone has little potential to remove air contaminants. However, at higher concentrations, ozone can kill infectious organisms but is also toxic to humans and animals.

The top vendors highlighted by Technavio’s research analysts in this report are:

  • Camfil
  • Cummins
  • Daikin Industries
  • Donaldson Company
