National Safety Council Statement on AAA Foundation Research Regarding the Distracting Nature of Vehicle Infotainment Systems

ITASCA, Ill., Oct. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Safety Council applauds the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety on its new research highlighting the correlation between distraction and new vehicle infotainment systems. AAA and researchers at the University of Utah have reinforced an inconvenient truth: In-vehicle technology isn't safer, hands-free is not risk-free.

The technology in our vehicles today makes it easier than ever to be constantly connected. This research, however, shows the point at which innovation and safety become mutually exclusive. This research helps drivers understand the dangers to which they expose themselves and others if they cannot disconnect. Hopefully this study helps us all get on the Road to Zero and commit to keeping each other safe.
