Forbes Names Sysmex Among World's Most Innovative Companies

LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill., Oct. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Sysmex America announced today that it has been recognized by Forbes magazine's 2017 list of the world's most innovative companies for the second consecutive year.

Sysmex was the highest ranked company in the global "health care equipment & services" category, and was named the 27(th) most innovative company overall in the world, across all categories. In 2016, Sysmex was named the 28(th) most innovative company.

Joining Sysmex among the top 30 are companies such as Tesla, Amazon, Netflix, Adobe Systems, Marriott International, Rakuten and LG.

"The continuous innovation in our products, testing and quality processes, and in how we partner with our customers, have powered improvements in health care for millions of patients," said Ralph Taylor, chief executive officer. "Our employees are the most innovative part of Sysmex, and their ingenuity and passion for creating unique and innovative value make it possible for us to shape the future of healthcare."

Sysmex is the leading developer of best-in-class, in vitro diagnostic hematology and clinical laboratory products in the U.S., Canada and Latin America. The company's many innovations include being the first to:

-- Market an immature granulocyte count
-- Introduce diode laser technology to hematology
-- Automate reticulocyte counting using fluorescent flow cytometry

In addition to inventive solutions, product testing and customer support, Sysmex invests in new manufacturing processes that are both efficient and environmentally friendly. For example, Sysmex America's recently-modernized reagent factory in Mundelein, Ill. has increased production capacity by 80 percent on its existing facility.

Securing a place on Forbes' most innovative companies list is based on investors' independent, objective calculations of companies' "innovation premium," or the difference between their market capitalization and the net present value of cash flows from existing businesses (based on a proprietary algorithm from Credit Suisse HOLT). The difference between them is the bonus given by equity investors after reviewing seven years or more of the company's financial data. Companies' historical and forward return-on-investment, reinvestment rate and other mathematical algorithms are applied to develop the final rankings.
