Philadelphia Energy Solutions Supports Governor Tom Wolf’s Petition for Relief from Renewable Fuel Standard

Philadelphia Energy Solutions (“PES”) today issued the following statement in support of the recent formal petition submitted by Governor Tom Wolf (Pennsylvania) to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on behalf of independent merchant refiners for relief from the compliance costs associated with the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS):

“Philadelphia Energy Solutions appreciates and supports Governor Tom Wolf’s formal petition to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for relief from the severe economic harm caused by the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) to independent merchant refiners and the thousands of workers and millions of consumers served by these merchant refiners in Pennsylvania and the eastern United States.

We are hopeful that this petition and the recent letter to President Trump on this issue from nine U.S. senators will lead to reasonable compromise and a meaningful reduction in the exorbitant and unsustainable RFS compliance costs. RFS reform is critical to the continued secure supply of reasonably priced fuels in the Northeast and throughout the United States. PES urges the Administration to act quickly and decisively to ensure that a secure, sustainable fuel supply for consumers and the thousands of jobs supplied by independent merchant refiners are balanced against the windfall profits flowing to large integrated oil companies, ethanol producers and retail gasoline stores from this flawed regulation.

PES is a critical supplier of gasoline, diesel and home heating oil to the eastern United States.”
