Panoply Media Launches New Podcast Series "Family Ghosts"

NEW YORK, Nov. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Panoply Media, the podcasting company behind hit shows like Malcolm Gladwell's Revisionist History and Battle Scars, today announced the launch of a new series from award-winning producer Sam Dingman called Family Ghosts. The six-episode season, which is hosted and produced by Dingman, aims to uncover the truth behind familial collections of secrets, intrigues, and myths.

In each episode, Family Ghosts investigates the true story behind a mysterious figure whose legend has followed a family for generations - grandmothers who were secretly jewel smugglers, uncles who led double lives, siblings who vanished without a trace. Listeners will be left questioning if they know their own family's secrets.

"Family Ghosts is a beautifully produced journey through the secrets and mysteries that families would rather not discuss," said Andy Bowers, chief content officer of Panoply. "It's perfect for the holiday season, when relatives gather and maybe indulge a little too much and start to tell those stories that make you think, 'Huh, could that really be true?'"

Family Ghosts' pilot episode, "The Family Jewels," was selected by listeners earlier this year to be developed into a full series from Panoply's Pilot Project. In the series, Dingman weaves the popular investigative podcasting format with a rich-storytelling narrative that captures listeners in each episode with the help of his contributors.

The season premiere, "No Brown Spots", is now available, with all new episodes being released each Wednesday for six weeks.

Below is a summary of first two episodes this season.

November 15: "No Brown Spots"
One summer night in 2010, Caila's family home burned to the ground, taking her brother Ben's life in the process. For years, friends and therapists have tried to convince her that Ben, who suffered from various mental disorders, probably caused the blaze. But Caila has an alternate theory: she thinks her mom did it.

November 22: "Sue's Clues"
When Nick's grandfather died in 1994, something bizarre happened: his aunt Susan stole the body and hid it. Susan died shortly thereafter, and for the last twenty-three years, Nick and his family have agonized over his grandfather's whereabouts - but much to Nick's frustration, never enough to actually try to find him. So Nick asks "Family Ghosts" host Sam Dingman to see what he can do.
